Dashcam recommendations?

Hi guys, cars are being keyed regularly in my street, mine vandalised once. After a dashcam to record it if it happens again, as well as any crashes. Any suggestions? Cheers

Most dash cams won’t record for long after the car is turned off. My next base one is about 2 minutes. It has a sensor to detect a bump but I can’t trigger that by rocking the car etc. It’s good for driving footage of course.

I had an issue where I thought a neighbour was scratching my car so I rigged up 4 small cameras with a fully charged 12 battery for a few nights, One out the front, one each side and one out the back. didn’t see anything apart from people wandering by. was a nightmare going through the SD memory cards,

I then got a camera on the side of the house that covers the car. So far i have caught a fox pissing on the wheel and a cat on the bonnet. The police are investigating and think it’s a professional gang of animal rights activists against the fossil fuel industry.

I made that last bit up.

My NextBase 522 GW setup has a front and optional rear camera (can currently be bought as a bundle or individually). Sensitivity of what it detects can be set to High, Medium or Low. When leaving the car it can be set to Parking Mode, whereby if a bump or jolt is detected it records for about 30 seconds on its own internal battery and saves it. Apparently one can also connect the system to a smart phone, which will send a notification while away from the car. I don’t have this activated on mine, so can’t comment on how effective that feature is.
The sensor may or may not be sensitive enough to detect a key being scraped along the paintwork (I’m not going to test that on mine!), but other types of vandalism-type knocks would probably activate it. My only reservation in your situation might be that if any perpetrators realised they were being recorded from within the vehicle, they might do more damage trying to get in and remove the recording device, especially if it’s a soft top. Fortunately our 5 is garaged.
No doubt there are other makes with similar features, for other contributors to add.

I’ve used and recommend https://blackvue.co.uk/ Blackvue dashcams due to their Parking mode and adjustable sensitivity. They’re small and discrete too…

How about one of the home CCTV setups ?
will monitor 24/7 and unlike dashcams - won’t need physical contact with the car to activate recording.

Yeah, thinking about that too, might work better hey

That’s true! Certainly don’t want more damage done! But will look into the Cam recommendation, thanks so much

Happy Xmas all!

Quick question, if I get two cameras for the car, where does the one in back fit, give the roof opens? Thanks!

The only rears I can recall seeing are mounted like a reversing camera - under the boot lip near the number plate lights.
OK as a camera when driving but not sure it would catch much if someone went at the car.

I’ve seen rear-view dashcam mounted to wind blockers. Could that be an option for you?
