Day at Llandow in support of Mission Motorsport

Steve, gates open 8:30am, track activities 10 till 5 with lunch & afternoon breaks. We’re going over with 2 cars & 4 drivers, me being one of them Rolling eyes, only my 2nd drive on track, so I’ll be the one everyone overtakes Wink

Hope to see you there Smile

Liz - so turning up about 11 would be feasible for passengers? yes?

Hi, I’m taking part in this as well. There are 40 cars in total and I think the first 2 hours from 10.00 are being split into 15 sessions with 10 cars per session followed by Open Pit Lane. Looks like more than half of the cars will have empty passenger seats - including mine and I understand that passengers can be added on the day - suggested contribution to the Mission Motorsport charity is £5.

see you there!

Jo… I have a message back saying passengers turning up about 11 should be fine Smile

I got confused when a message came up asking for passenger & driver names by Thursday, but as you say, it looks like passengers can be added on the day Smile

See you all there!

On the off-chance that it might possibly rain on Saturday at some point I am bringing the area gazebo (subject to Snurfen dropping it round on friday…)

I think I worked out who you were.  Glad you brought the gazebo as it was a little wet.

A damn good day though - Sam said that we’d raised over £1,000.  Shame that Jon couldn’t make it, due to work commitments.  I brought a tow-rope along just in case Big Smile

How many other OC members made it along in the end?

Hi Stuart, I was there and taking some shelter in aforementioned gazebo when it wasn’t in danger of lifting off - I knew there was a good reason to take along a spare wheel - although it needed 2 for one corner. Still taff’s (wife’s ?) car was also used on the other corner. Thanks Taff for bringing it along and I hope you didn’t get too cold and wet. Very enjoyable day - for those not there, track started off damp and then , well, just got wet and then very wet. Evened out the cars a bit as mine is just a standard Mk1 with normal tyres and suspension. Only half spun it once but called an early end to the day as it developed a tinny rattle and I wanted to make sure I got home ok - which I did. Turns out to be the catalytic converter - could be the original so not bad for a 22 yr old car! A great day and thanks to Sam for organising it.

Spare wheels come in handy.  I arrived before any of the gazebos were put up, so covered my tools with an old showe curtain, held down by 4 wheels.

Where abouts did you half-spin?  Was it on the massive puddle at the start of Hangar Straight?

4 of us in our group & joined by another member as passenger, so 5 more I know of.

Great day even with the weather, looking forward to doing another & being confident to drive more. Smile

Won’t ask how you managed to balance 4 spare wheels on your boot lid Shock. My spin was on the opposite side of the track at the Glue Pot - onto the inside of the circuit. It was in the morning before the real rain came, so just trying too hard I think! I know the massive puddle you mention but was surprised that it didn’t upset the car too much.

Two on the boot-rack, one behind the passenger’s seat and one in the boot.  The Mk2 has a slightly better boot shape than the mk1, so a full-sized wheel+tyres fits nicely, along side some tools.

The opposite side souns like the start of Hangar Straight.  It got worse in the afternoon.  The harder I hit that puddle the worse it got.  It eventually sent me sideways and off into the gravel.  First trackday of the year;  first trip into the kitty-litter.  Start as you mean to go on…
