Daytime Running Lights retrofit to LEDs? Mk4/ND SE model

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2018 Mk4/ND SE model
  2. I’m based near: Manchester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on…

Whether it is possible to change the installed incandescent yellow DRLs on the basic SE ND model to the LEDs used on the higher spec models?

I’ve checked with the local Mazda garage who tell me that this isn’t possible to do as Mazda don’t supply the part as an accessory.

I’m not very technical but have watched a few Youtube videos on other lights being swapped out for LED replacements (just not the front DRLs) so figured it was probably possible?

Any and all help appreciated, thanks!

Take a look at the ABD website.
If you type your reg no. in, it should list what LED bulbs you can replace your incandescent bulbs with
I have replaced my 3.5 sidelights like this and they really light the lamp assembly up.
Ditto no. plate and reversing light bulbs

Are you talking about fitting the ‘fangs’ as they are sometimes called rather than fitting a replacement LED bulb instead of the incandescent ones?

Thanks for getting back to me.

@999to5 No luck on the ABD site I’m afraid. It’s not really showing many options and none for the DRL.

@IanH Yes, it’s the fangs I’m talking about. Just whether it’s possible to switch out the incandescent bulbs and replace with LEDs? At the moment I have the white LED main lights and the yellow of the DRLs. Would be nice to have all white if possible.

Hi PH,
Have a look here https://www.mx5manual.com/index.html The section covering these lamps seems to indicate that they would be a straight swap. Why not see if you can get some second hand ones (may be http://www.mx5-racing.co.uk/ ) and have a go at swapping them out.
I would take a picture of the plug on your lights and confirm it is the same on the LED ones before buying.
Good luck.

Looking at the manual Mad Malc posted a link to, it looks like your car has wedge DRL bulbs
I’m guessing W21W but email ABD to check

Thanks folks, this looks really useful. :+1:
