Hi
does anybody know how to depressurisation the fuel system on the above car. The Haynes manual states emote the trim from under the steering column and the fuel pump relay connector should be there, it states the wiring colours are white/red, white/red, blue/red and light green but I cannot find these. Please can someone help
You run the engine and remove the fuel pump relay while it is running after a short while the engine stops as it runs out of fuel at that point there is little or no fuel pressure in the fuel system and you can replace the filter without getting soaked in petrol.
I tried it and I could not get the fuel punp relay to come out it’s socket on my Mk2, I think the base socket the fuel pump relay clips into is green.
As you have found out Mazda changed wire colours between years and also across different markets.
This link discusses removeing it but sometimes the relay is black and at other times it is green.
Clear as mud.

You have got the fancy pliers to remove the filter pipe clips.
Hi I am only taking the inter manifold off so that I can have it polished, in the Haynes manual it tells you to do this to the fuel system so I will not touched the fuel filter, thanks for the help and I will see if I can see the relay tomorrow regards Mark
Leave the fuel filler cap off if you’re not going to seal the open fuel pipes as fuel tank pressure will force fuel out of open fuel lines.
