Developing rust in boot lid

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __2l Miyako 2010
  2. I’m based near: __Earlswood Warwickshire
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __developing rust underneath boot lid. Any ideas or precautionary steps to stop the rust developing? Seems to be odd to see it where it is…

They usually go around the lights and black cover.
I’d pop out all 3 and see if you have water in there.
If you have, look for the source.
Take it back to bare metal where the rust is and treat with rust inhibitor, then re paint it to match.

Many thanks

Discovered this on Youtube… https://youtu.be/JQWTzdW2oo0?si=HuGGcHFcugvtMrK2

Good video for advice but a bit of faff removing the boot lid.
I did mine in situ, just mask off before spraying.
That in the video was an aluminium boot lid so not actually rusting steel, no need for rust converters. If a PRHT car it’s a steel boot lid so rust converter is a must, same method as in the video though.

Great thanks… yes mine is a PRHT.

Common on many makes of car because moisture will just hang there. Just finished treating mine with an approximate paint match ( Hyundai Steel Grey) and lagged with Waxoil.
Good idea to rubber glove some rust converter and Waxoil on the inner surfaces too…

I had some great advice when I noticed my car had the same problem, which you can see here

Great thanks
