A heads up here for anyone fitting Diamond Car Mats (or other brands of these type of mats)
Went out this morning for a blast, put my foot down on the accelerator to get passed the vehicle in front, came to lift off the throttle but the engine stayed on full revs!!. Thinking the throttle had jammed somehow I kept prodding it with my right foot and thankfully the revs came back to normal…pulled over to check things out and on looking at the accelerator pedal, noticed there was a lip just below the pedal where the carpet finished…you would never know this could happen unless you floored the pedal to be honest. It is something I rarely do. I have now slightly moved the mat from where it should be and put strong velcro around the front edges. Hopefully this will cure the issue.
A timely reminder!
I’ve seen this mentioned before and come across this away from the MX5 OC forum, Make sure all accessory floor mats (in what ever car you are driving) are properly secured and can not move around!
This is why all mats that are not original fiitted floor carpets must be retained in a position well clear of the pedal on the floor by proper locating pegs.
I had a similar experience about 30 years ago when driving in flip flops. Very scary. Don’t do it. Its fine until its not and by then it is too late. I saw someone get out of an RS6 the other day with flip flops on, kids in rhe back - i hope it never happens to him.
There are locating tags around the edges which I had installed correctly and the mats also have velcro tabs at various points to also hold them in place. As far as I was aware the mats were correctly installed. I now know, however, that they obviously need securing much more below the pedal area as they aren’t supplied with fasteners etc for there. I have now installed my own. This is the point of my original post.
