Did not buy 10th anniversary in Twickenham today

Hi

I traveled from Somerset by train today to see an immaculate 10th anniversary in Twickenham. The dealer, who is a Mazda dealer, went over the car and told me it had two small marks but other than this was immaculate. After spending £70 on train tickets and all day on trains:-

1. Not one panel on the car, including doors was without a dent. 12 in total, including the petrol flap!

2. Both front wings had been re sprayed, they told me that they get 1 year old cars in with a full re spray!

3. The rear bumper had been totally re sprayed; poorly that’s how I spotted it.

4. The near side of the rear bumper was loose along the side of the car and did not fit correctly. You can see the rivets in the top of the bumper the gap is that wide between the rear wing and the bumper.

5. Overspray in near side rear wheel arch.

6. Overspray in off side rear wheel arch and this rear wing had been re sprayed. Slight rubbing down marks near the top may have body filler under.

7. Front bumper multiple cracks above the number plate.

8. Smashed window glass in the GLOVE BOX. Does the glove box have a window? No. It fell open during the impact of the crash.

9. Near side front wing did not fit the recession in the front of the sill and there is a large gap there.

10. Same on off side wing but as much. The car should be solid at this point between the front wing and the sill and the wing should fit nicely into the sill reccess.

11. Nail polish lid in the ashtray?

12. Pink nail polish splatters in the arm rest aperture and the hinge was completely broken.

I stopped there and left. I thought I had the one this time but no. The dealer told me I was too critical and most people don’t bother the look at these things. I asked them why they had not told me of all the damage after pointing out all the dents to them, they told me “we can’t go over every car you know, we sell over 20 a week, that’s what cars of this age are like”. We walked out and passed an MK1 red Eunos, I said “look at that, a lot older and doesn’t have the damage that one has got has it?” He said “you can’t tell with that one, you can’t tell in the rain”. So they know the score, never buy a car in the dark or the rain.

T822MUD. 10th Anniversary. Blue.

This is a Mazda approved vehicle on the maim Mazda web site. Mazda approved means “we can’t go over every car you know we sell over 20 a week”

Mazda say:-

Every Mazda Approved Used Car is prepared to the highest standards using trained Mazda technicians. Each car undergoes a vigorous Mazda multi-point inspection. The inspection covers a service validation, engine, transmission, chassis and electrical checks and a general condition check, after which any mechanical faults are found they are replaced with genuine Mazda Approved Used parts. Your car also receives a full valet prior to delivery.
A total lie. "We beat a car back together poorly and charge you full price" is a better statment. And do note "replaced with genuine Mazda Approved Used parts".
Oh the brake pads were worn to a dangerous level also front and back. I excpect they were taken off another approved Mazda car, then approved for use by Mazda and re fitted to this car. Yes they can take brake pads or anything else off your car during service and fit it to a car they want to tart up.
"replaced with genuine Mazda Approved Used parts". Parts used off scrap cars, crashed car anything they want if they approve it it must be good.

Sounds great! Rolling eyes Bloody dealers! It’s all very well saying you’re too critical but to start off by saying it’s immaculate???

Don’t you fancy a nice MK1 instead?

B!oody annoying i bet after the time & money spent getting there. Better luck next time.

When i sold my MK1 the buyer flew down from Glasgow & drove it 5 hours home a happy bunny. Its still going strong & hes just completed a Euro trip in it.

I sent him pictures & video of every angle of the car & described any niggles i could think of so he knew exactly what he was coming to look at.

Shame many dealers can`t do the same.

That said my Sports going soon Sad as i need rear seats again & last weekend i bought a 2006 Astra Twintop from a garage in Somerset & luckily it was exactly as he described. He even knocked £500 off the asking to tempt me to make the 150 mile journey to see it.

So chin up & good luck with the hunt Thumbs up

You should have asked if anyone was in the area to go and have a look at it for you first before you made the trek; I would have gone to have a look at it for you.

Many thanks for the replies.

I want a mark 2, I feel the need to move on from MK1.

I didn’t think of that. Thanks, I will bear that in mind. I really did explain to them that I was not going to just buy anything that’s blue and shiny and was told there are two marks and apart from that the car was immaculate. They know full well the history of the car. They told me it had been valeted, with glass in the glove box? Another weekend spoilt. If there are any dealers out there who sell genuine cars at the real price, dealers like this are stopping your sales. I won’t believe another dealer with MX5’s again; this is the second time this has happened in three weeks. I have forgotten what nasty little lying thieving tur*s the vast majority of car dealers really are. I even phoned up a very well known MX5 dealer to see what they had in as I could make it from Waterloo. I told them the tail and was told “when we re spray our cars you can’t tell”. Well woopie dooo. You can buy a car privately in poor condition and tart it up and sell it for full dollar, conning people, lying to people, paying desperate people the least you can and selling, after hiding the truth, for the most you can get. Bunch of Arther Daliey con merchants. That’s a nice honest way to make a living. And if anyone asks, has it been re sprayed, is there any filler, has it been crashed, the answer is NO. Perhaps these types of dealers can live with them selves. Why not “Yes mate the front was scratched and had a small bump but we’ve sorted it out here’s a photo of the damage we have had repaired”. “Oh Just a wing then, I’ll have it”. But sadly no. “Here’s a shiny £2 a year web site, here’s my shiny forecourt, shiny desk, shiny glass, shiny smile with shiny lies”. Round the back or just down the road “here’s my back street spray booth where we do a poor flash over job, hide crash damage, the rust and hide the truth from you”. “Here’s the hole in the wall round the back where we swap out speedo’s so the mileage is lower and use chains to pull cars back into a shape so the panels we beat back into shape and fill, don’t fit”. “Here’s the Neanderthal who obtained the new, used, steering rack we put in”. “It’s only been in three other crashed cars before you got it”. "No Sir there’s no crash been reported in the HPI check, that’s because the person who crashed it can’t tell the insurance as they had third party or will loose the NCB and all the other reasons not to tell the insurance you smashed the car up AGAIN, like you lied to the insurance to get your premiums down. On Autotrader and their web site it has 42 K on the clock, When I phone them it has 42K, but just before I come to see it the mileage jumps up by 4.5K. This is what their web site says about used cars :- “which ensures your car’s always looked after and rectified by a GENUINE Mazda Dealership in the event of anything untoward happening”. What do they mean by this “rectified in the event of anything untoward happening”. Oh it means we’ll do a cheap flash over job for you, oh I see.

See the car for yourselves.

Lots of bad cars out there. A while ago, I went to look for a Roadster for a cousin who had lost his in an accident. Ended up at a back street garage in Birmingham, to view a 1994 Montego blue car, described as a recent import. First impressions werren’t good. There car had clearly not moved in a while. Popped the hood, surprised to see the engine covered in mechanics gloves. Hey ho. Surprisingly, the car started on the button, and ran sweetly. But then it went downhill. The car looked like a genuine Montego blue car, and therefore possibly a RS-Limited that had lost some of its fittings. Under the bonnet, boot carpet etc, all looked blue. But the stamped chassis plate was odd; black tape had been applied over it, and a new number stamped through. The screwed on Vin plate indicated a silver car… Enough. Someone else went to look at the car, and had a much closer look; jig marks all over the chassis.

A new scam I have heard of is crashed cars being brought and exported to Eastern Europe; a perfectly legitimate proposition. But then these cars are then “repaired”, and re-imported, and registered in the UK. All insurance records of the cars are then cleaned; these will not show on a register. Scarey.

Oh yes it’s also listed under MAZDA APPROVED USED CARS, on the main Mazda web site. I hope Mazda know what they are doing with dealers and cars like this.

Mazda approved means nothing at all. The dealer told me “this is a Mazda approved car sir, we wouldn’t touch it if it wansn’t top quality”.

All the owners clubs of Mazdas need to know Mazda approved may mean “hidden truth”. You know they didn’t even offer to pay a penny towards my cost of getting there. 7 hours on trains to look at a wrecked car for tweny minutes.

Mazda approved used car indeed.

Here’s the link to Mazda approved and what the deal is.

This car is on the Mazda used car list.

I have had a similar experience travelling from Newcastle toi Huddersfield to have a look at a MK3 sport with a full service history. It didnt and the second service was a £57.00 handwritten reciept from some back street garage, handwritten and could have been on any car. When it boils down to it dealers are there just to sell a car, they dont care much about the car or who buys it!

There was a 10th anniversay at Supercar Classics in blue. People speak highly of them but last time I looked he wanted £4995. Much higher than UK car but might be worth a look?

You can give a dealer your car for them to sell. They charge you each week to keep it and take a cut when they sell it. Look at the photos of the car on the dealers web site http://www.mkg3000.com/mazda-mx-5-anniversary-1296941 . Glorious summer’s day, the trees are heavy with leaves. No snow. Taken last summer, July. You give the dealer your car and guess what; they use the car for them selves, every day and weekends. They don’t have to buy a car, they can use yours. No tax and no insurance to pay. If they get stopped, they are driving trade, they just picked it up officer. The car dealer underwrites their own insurance. So some moron uses your car for his own use. On Mazda approved car web site, autotrader, pistonheads and MKG3000 webs sites the car is listed as doing 42000 miles. When I emailed them to confirm the mileage they phoned me up and asked where I got that mileage from, your web site. They then told me it was a mistake and the car had done 46800. That is the mileage THAT THEY HAVE PUT ON IT WHILE SELLING IT SINCE THE SUMMER. Then guess what happens, the sales rep smashes the car up. He can’t declare this to work. He can’t tell the person they are selling it for. NO just get Sloppy Joes back street repair shop to slap it back together as cheap as they can and do a flash spray job on it. It’s not recorded as Cat D, C, B or A as the damage has not gone through an insurance company and DVLA have not been told. HPI clear, no work done. Get it back on the forecourt and sell it. It could be a total cat A write off for all anyone knows. Then someone like me comes along and spots a bad one. The dealer said he had a 1 year old car that was sold by them and had a full re spray job. That is the last car he smashed up. A friend gave a large motorbike to a dealer to sell, after three months seven of us over took it on the A303. When we pulled it over the bike shop mechanic was riding it, on a Sunday afternoon. He had put 3K on it in three months. This goes on all the time and is where a lot of poorly repaired cars and bikes come from. The dealers using them and crashing them and not declaring the damage. THIS CAR MAY BE A TOTAL WRITE OFF and should not even be on the road. I was not offered a test drive. That’s the reason why. If this car does not sell the owner will get it back with an extra 4800 miles on the clock. They can’t change the mileage on Mazda web site can they? Between a rock and a hard place, reduce the price and get rid quick.

That’s the scam. Sell a car that someone else owns and thrash it all you want. Until you smash it. Back street repair job and get rid quick. In this case a Mazda dealer. This is the reason glass is in the glove box after the valet had been done in July.

Thats a strong allegation you’ve made. Have you contacted the previous owner in the logbook to verify its accident-free condition prior to a trade in? Oris just supposition? Its a cheap 10AE; for that price I don’t expect top condition. If all dealers are dishonest shysters as you allege, and this is a common practice amongst franchised dealers, why did you bother driving from Somerset? Are you now saying this 10AE is being sold on commission, and is not an Approved Car, because this is the first you have said this? If its now being sold on behalf of an owner, why on earth should the dealer service the car. The only thing I have heard fishy about a Mazda dealer prepping used cars was one that wanted to use perfectly good, but pattern service parts on cars.

Lots of other reasons for glass to be in the glovebox. A Honda I had in the US had a side glass stoved in by a stone thrown by a lawnmower. Somehow bits of glass found their way everywhere, including the glovebox.

And not all cars damaged in an accident are recorded by insurance companies.

The car should carry an MOT; how much was left on? You can take it to a VOSA inspection for a free test if you suspect that this was an unsafe car.

Give your allegations, that this dealer is involved in illegal practices, you have the moral duty to inform the local police. Tel 0300 123 1212
