Digital records

Trying to access the Mazda online service records but just says my Android device is not compatible. Emailed a car dealer about a 25th edition for sale and politely asked for the service history but all they gave me was the reg number and said to check it online. Very strange Mot history as shows the car having its first Mot at one year old at 33000 miles but only on 40000 now.

Can you access the digital service record if not the owner or a garage? Not sure you can. On iOS the app won’t allow access without the V5 or wouldn’t last time I tried. Um that is indeed strange. Does it add up in between?

I’ll get back to the garage. 40,000 over 5 years wouldn’t concern me but at nearly 34000 in 13 months it should have at least two nearly three services in that time.

There are privacy regulations and it is no ones business other than the owner of the car or a servicing garage as to the contents of that service record.

Just being a punter who wants to check the service record for a car is not allowed under data protection regulations.

If you go on to “My Mazda” on their website, you have to upload a scan of your V5 to get read access to the DSR for that car.

If you go into a Mazda dealer in order to purchase a secondhand Mazda, they may if you are a serious customer advise you of it’s service record. I’m not convinced they can provide you with a copy of that unless you purchase the car.

The garage are breaking the data protection rules to give that data out to a punter on the phone or email who has no real need to have the details on the car.

Not strange in the least, it is good data protection practise or is it practice never rember which is which.

Any non Mazda garage that request read and write access to the Digital Service Record has to agree only to give the info out to the car owner.

I’m afraid you are well out of kilter with the data protection regulations

In context when I tried was for the Mrs Motability car. Not looking at anyone else’s.

Well the garage selling the car will have to obtain it as surely service history is a big factor when buying a car.

Absolutely. Digital service records are mainly a convenience for anyone but the owner or buyer. Our CX3 still hasn’t had its record updates from August! I’m not sure I agree about the strength of the data protection but life’s to short to read the regs properly.

I really do not agree with most of what’s been said, i bought my car at two years old and had a main dealer service at three years only to preserve the warranty, for the last NINE years i have serviced it myself…it’s what i do for a living…so for all intense and purposes my car is unfit to sell on as it has no DSR!!!
Just to add my car is ‘guaranteed’ better looked after than any yearly dealer serviced car…fact. Anything it wants or needs it gets, no putting it off until next week, month or year.
I am not getting on my high horse here, try talking to the person that once owned the car you might be surprised at how much he/she loved the car.

Any buyer that will buy an ‘older’ car will prefer your written records. They can see and feel them. They can’t even see the DSR on a screen!

When I was looking at secondhand NCs, three garages I went to (2 Mazda, 1 indy) were very happy to share the digital service records of the cars as part of the sales pitch. One was remote, so they sent a whole package of info and pictures by email.

If the car is theirs to sell I can’t see they need to be protecting any data???

Any Mazda dealer should be able to call up the DSR and give you a copy.

One car I looked at was on 44K, but the last service logged was 13K less than two years previously. It looked like it had been flogged mercilessly for 37K without even an oil change! I walked…

Just trying to save a 100 mile round trip, hard to see why cannot access service details as you can check Mot history and other details online. Had another word with garage and they just say come and see the car and it wil be supplied with full mot and a fresh service. Think I’ll pass on this one as it will have to be a good one to let the ZSport go which has up to date service and all fluids recently done. But i do like the Soul red 25th.

My understanding:

British English. Practice = noun. Practise = verb.

American English. Practice = verb and noun

Scottish English (if there is such a thing). No idea.

In British English, if we practise enough, we will remember that practice makes perfect.

Passing on said car, dealer emailed and said DSR showed services at 12 and 24000 withing first rear then nothing for nearly 3 years when they claimed they gave tbe car a service 12 months ago pre sale.

Think I’ll hold out for my prefered choice a Recaro ND in Soul red.

When I purchased my NC ( not from a dealer ) the digital Service Record didn’t show a second year service.  As  it was sold/serviced at a local main dealer I returned there when it was due for the next service. I mentioned the missing entry at two years and he checked their in-house records and sure enough there it was. His reason for it not being on the DSR was “well you know how it is If the system is down or we are busy it gets placed on one side for action and gets forgotten”. The point of this ramble is don’t put that much faith in the DSR, look for receipts.

If you want to PM me the 25th AE edition number on the drivers wing I can ask my brother if it was a 25th AE member in the club as he is part of it, I gave up on Main dealers servicing my Sport Venture after 4 years as they did not fill me with any confidence, my cars are now serviced at my local MX5 specialist and I can tell they do it properly as soon as I drive it.

My brother had his 25th AE serviced at a main dealer and they forgot to tighten the bolts that held the filter service plate underneath the car, nearly all the bolts fell out on its first drive out causing sparks under the car as only one bolt was left in, it was sorted out by then taking bolts off another customers car.

What about the dealer that forgot to tighten the oil sump plug on the 25th AE on the owners club forum spilling its contents of oil all over the road and car.

My son took his Fiat 500 in to the main dealer last week and they managed to overfill the engine with oil and wanted him to pay an extra £300 for the privilege of sorting it all out, he is also done with main dealers.

I’m the same…plus my car had missed a yearly service when we got it but as it had only averaged 5k miles per year, I didn’t think it that important. DSR is not that high on my radar and anyone who comes to see any of my vehicles can judge for themselves how ■■■■ I am in their upkeep.

Excellent, I will remeber that

I had to sort out the DSR for both our Mazda cars when the local dealer insisted on marking the service as an “inspection” and MyMazda kept flagging the service as overdue. They sorted the MX-5 out straight away but tried to stonewall the missus into accepting that they couldn’t amend the records after more than 10 days from the service. Luckily, they are part of a chain so I emailed their HO and got it resolved (presumably via Mazda) within a couple of days and we haven’t been back since.
