Digital service record

Hi

I purchased my MX-5 back in February and it had a full service history all be it not all done by Mazda (I wouldn’t use them either) I have a print out with some of the services but for the services carried out by an independent, am I able to get these uploaded to the digital record by Mazda? Or do I just need to keep the invoices?

Got to admit I much prefer having a service book!!

Cheers

Gordon

Hi Gordon

I remember being told that Mazda dealers could not back date their own services onto the electronic record (had to be done on the day it was serviced). Some independent garages have access to the electronic system but again must enter the record on the day of the service.

If an independent garage without access to this system services the car then I doubt if there is any chance of the service being added to the electronic record.

Richard.

Thanks Richard. I find that pretty poor if that is the case! What’s wrong with a good old stamp! I’m only 26 and I prefer the old school way

In Feb I had a service done by a local garage, I contacted Mazda regarding having it updated to my service record, I was told as long as the garage is VAT registered and that I send them a copy of the receipt they could update the records.

I emailed a scanned copy and it was updated the next day. Not sure if back dated services can be added though.

A normal Independent Operators with access to the Mazda DSR can only go back I think around 14 days.

Certain key users at Mazda say 1 year but unlikley to be more tha than that.

The problem with the old service book was that anyone with a few rubber stamps costing around £5 each could produce a fake service record.

Therefore the original poster is tending to suggest it should be possibile to make a fake service record which I’m sure is not what they want.

I know many people who have manufacured service records by replacing a lost service book from the manufacturer and buying some rubber stamps.

Mazda allow any Vat registered trader free write access to the service record. Therefore it is easy for a local garage to update the service record.

Let’s not assist those who want to fake these records.

I am definitely not suggesting to make fake records. I am suggesting to keep it simple. I understand it’s a form of protection but let’s face it, it is pretty inconvenient.

Keep invoices along with the service book?. Or will you tell me that I can make a fake invoice through use of Microsoft word and some fancy wordart?

Bottom line is would it concern you that it wasn’t on the digital record when going to buy even though invoices were present?
