Dilemma - looking for some opinions.

I am usualy a very in control and decisive person ( I think [^o)]) but I am stumped here.

Currently own and am planning to keep my Mk1 (I think [^o)]) and I am just about to purchase a Mk3.

I have looked at 3 cars all 56plates similar price and miles but the colour is stumping me. Current MK1 car is black and although I love it in the Mk3 I am torn.

What do you guys think?

Options are :

 1. True Red
 2. Galaxy Grey
 3. Sunlight Silver
 4. Winning Blue
I cant lose the niggle that there are very few things better looking than a little red sports car [;)]

Also all of the cars except the silver 1 are 1.8 option packs - the silver is 2.0 sport - I originally thought I wasnt fussed between the 1.8 and 2.0 but the leather and stuff looks nice.

Any thoughts, opinions, help, experience or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why has this car taken away my ability to think for myself LOL [:S]

Hi Madboy, is it me, you say you have looked at three cars, but have given 4 colour choices. If it was me I would go for Winning Blue every time, even though I own a silver 5, the blue is a great colour. Good luck which ever you choose.

Winning Blue here too.

I know sorry about that… the winning blue car was at the same garage that has the true red one… I’m really thinking 3 garages but with 4 cars.

Im worse than my wife over a pair of shoes with these colours… Maybe I should apply the same reason she would when shoe shopping and try and buy them all [:P]

Hi

just to make things worse it HAS to be TRUE RED for me its the only colour the MK3 should be with black leather interior with red piping on seats, and this from a BRG lover… [I] I know BUY all FOUR !!! lol

Zippy [:#]

I would certainly rule out the silver - so many cars are silver these days it has just become an incredibly dull colour (because it is so common) (In my opinion - no offence meant to anybody, but I’m sure you all know what I mean). It is almost the magnolia of the car world - loads of people seem to like it, but it’s horrid! (Except on most Mercs and a handful of others which suit silver more than any other colour).

Anyway, I digress…
I think that blue would be my first choice (after black, but…) probably followed by either grey or red.

The thing with the MX5 is that because you can see the bonnet as you drive, if you’re not hugely fond of the colour, you won’t forget it, even when you are inside.

Or buy a RX-8 in Crystal white pearl.

I think the red looks good on Mk1s but not Mk3s where I think it looks a bit vulgar rather than classic. I have the grey and it is very masculine but perhaps a bit dull and safe - I love Winning Blue but I do sometimes think it is a bit girly-candy-blue and not sure I would want it on a daily drive car that already has a somewhat feminine reputation. Silver is ubiquitous and therefore safe for resale but a bit unimaginative. I would go for black myself - classic and suits the Mk3 design very sexily.

The fuel bills will certainly take your mind off the colour. [;)]

As for the colour choices I would go for Grey too for pretty much the same reasons as Paul. I was undecided between Black and Grey but availability sorted that.

Never mind the colour. Whats more important is the extra power from the 2.0L. The 1.8 is, I believe, less powerfull than the MK 2.5. It also depends if you want a six speed box. I have one and love it, but many people prefer the 5 speed.
I did not really fancy any of the original colours and was glad when the Copper Red and Stormy Blue came out.

Jim, how is the Larini exhaust, compared to stock?

Red…the only colour to have…but then, I’m biased…(takes cover)…[;)]

I’ll go with any colour so longs as it’s, erm…red:)

Good luck with whatever colour you choose and enjoy your new pride and joy, and don’t forget to post some pics of your new toy!!!

Cheers

Ben

Bob Hall, the leading light in the development of the original MX5 design, used to run a Q&A on Miata . net. He was asked one time what colour is Gods Miata?..He replied…“Mariner Blue, obviously”…Shame they haven’t reintroduced such a great colour, probably too feminine for a butch thing like a Mk3

Got to say I agree Geoff… I love Mariner blue and very near had one before settling on my black MK1.

If they did do the Mk3 in that colour I would already have it.

Looks like Grey is a safe, sensible and enjoyable colour and I do like it a lot.

Just need to fight back the little devil on my shoulder telling me to get the red! [6]

Thanks all!

If there all similar miles and similar price then  it must be the silver 2.0 Sport every time. Thats got to be a much better deal and if you really think silver is to bland or ordinary then put a stripe down it and you’ll have a car that really stands out!

Well if any colour then it’d have to be black. Mk3’s look absolutely stunning in black.

If those are you’re colour choices and you’re not that fussed with what engine then definately
’Winning Blue’. Don’t worry about what other people think, at the end of the day you get the
colour you want and makes you feel happy - we all drive MX5’s so obviously don’t care what
narrow-minded people who stereotype think.

Well Im going for “another” look and drive of the Galaxy Grey and Red ones tomorrow… since making the appointments I have also seen a nice Black one…

Thanks for adding to my confusion Ady [;)]

Nice problem to have [:D]

I’m with, ummm, whoever it was earlier saying that silver’s boring, there are far too many silver cars on the roads! That was, in fact, one of my requirements when I was looking for mine - preferably BRG, but definitely not silver! I think I’d put grey in a similar place, quite a lot like silver! That said, a dark grey would be OK.
I think red sports cars are a bit overdone too, so personally I would go for the blue one, I think! That said, it’s your car and colour is a very subjective decision. What I like is going to be very different to what the next person likes, so I don’t know if we can help!
One thing I was told (by one of my teachers, actually!) is that if a decision’s hard, then it probably means it doesn’t matter - both options are equally good! However, if you can’t decide, a good way to make yourself choose is to flip a coin. If you feel disappointed with the outcome, you know that you prefer the other one. The important thing is to not feel that you have to go with the decision the coin makes for you.  [;)]
