Direct master to slave clutch line replacement

 Hi all,

For a while now I have felt my clutch medal was a little spongy and the bite point was a little too low.

I bled the clutch and it improved slightly but as the MX5 has such a long routed clutch line I started looking at replacements and found most suppliers only sell a replacement for the mid-section rubber hose.

I found this ‘HEL’ stainless steel custom made clutch line going straight from master cylinder down to slave and bleeding is much easier now, pedal is firmer and bite point seems right

Has anyone else done this mod?  I see people on US forums have done it to their Miata’s, but most UK chats seem to be about just replacing the rubber section (right pain to get to)

Hi - I have the HEL line but have yet to fit it. Is it a simple job to do?

Rod

Rod,

It was easy to fit apart from getting the nut loose on my slave cylinder, almost rounded it off.

As long as you can loosen the nuts at master and slave it is easy. Took a while to bleed the first time so make sure you have a fresh bottle of dot4

Getting all the old clutch line piping off and out of the car once I was happy with the new line was fiddly

One of the best mods in my opinion

I have had the same problem, to the point where engaging gear became difficult, like the OP all I could find was the stainless flexible mid section.

Moss sell a Goodridge master to slave pipe which is easy to fit, however removing the old pipework was very difficult/impossible so my Eunos now has a ‘dual circuit clutch’ which has caused some amusement from onlookers.

Perhaps one day I will persevere and remove it, or perhaps I will just use the time to enjoy driving it.

I’ve got the goodridge pipe from Moss, same story as Dave 208 although I justify leaving my old pipes in in case I want to go back to how it came from factory - why you’d want it like factory is beyond me but…

System works fine, was dead easy to bleed with an 8 year old child (my daughter) on the pedal and me on the £1 rubber pipe from the local factor - I’ve had 2 easibleed kits in the dim and distant past on other cars and both were ten times more trouble than they are worth. Don’t know if its any better than the standard set up but I cannot believe it is any worse.
