Just wondering if anyone has made their own interior bling? Things like handbrake sleeves, gear lever knobs etc. I fancy having a go and would appreciate any tips. I’ve got access to a lathe and pillar drill etc so should be possible to make a few things.
I can tell you the gear lever thread is M10 - 1.25 pitch if that helps.
Only thing i`ve made for mine is these shiney thumb screw bolts to hold the wind blocker on in place of the black plastic originals. But anything you can make to give it your personal touch & save yourself money can only be a good thing. Let us know how you get on, you may get some orders
Sure thing. Let your imagination run riot on the things you could use. I made a brake handle from an empty gas cylinder from a Paslode nail gun. (A slimline deodrant spray can is a similar size & easier to get I suppose) Polished off the paint & waxed the final shine on the alloy, fits great!! Made a release button from a scrap of bronze stock from the plumber @ work. No idea what he does with the rest!! Made a gear knob from an antique solid brass door knob rescued from a boatshed demolition, Took ages to get the green powder corrosion off it but oh!! the golden shine…
Some sod broke into the car once & stole a few loose items including the stock ashtray, the one with the lift-up lid. Made a replacement from billet marine alloy and the lid from aircraft stainless steel sheet. Sturdy time-project over three weekends, but came up pretty flash. Had the car rego engraved in the alloy & enamelled to match the body paint. They all require a regular polish to maintain the gleam, but with so much sunshine around here the slight tarnish might not be such a bad thing.
If anyone fancies the obligatory photo’s just say so. Be happy to oblige in the weekend. If it actually stops raining…
Don’t get me started on the instrument cluster, that’s for another day.
Digging up a fairly old thread while reading through
There was a rather tatty, scratch and gouged ally gear knob in the glove box when I bought my Roadster and the Momo one was showing it’s age, so I decided to fit the ally one … after some filing, wet 'n drying and polishing …
… and in place, using parts of the Momo (now saying ‘o wow’!) knob …
