Do 1990 MX5's have central locking?

Hi,

FYI: This is my first post. Only had MX5 for 3 days. Great fun so far. Cruise with lid down planned for tomorrow (Saturday).

Probably looks like a silly question “Do 1990 MX5’s have central locking?” but do they?

I have just brought one and either it doesn’t work or doesn’t have central locking.

Any help would be great.

Car has an alarm but only seems to engine emobilise (spelling???)

Cheers

G’day mate, Welcome to the Forum

Unless it’s been fitted after market, then no. A standard 1.6 Mk1 does not have alarm, immobiliser or central locking

 As Geoff said

http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/products_id/130 if you want to fit it though - seemingly a awkward to get it working perfectly, but a good kit otherwise.

Spending hard earned cash on central locking for a 2 door car is the height of laziness IMO Takes 2 seconds to reach over & unlock the passenger door lol.

Plenty of more useful mods to do if you have money to burn.

Just my humble opinion of course [;)]

Best thing I ever did - I think the installation guide I did is around somewhere…

Benefits:- saves wear & tear on locks, as well as all the usual benefits of remote central locking…

Cons:- accusations of laziness by others! [;)]

  • Found it! - see here.

Nice one I never thought of it that way, I’ll cross that mod of my list straight away[:D]

I think mine was this one, or very similar.

Good kit, random code, easy to fit & reliable.

So for £26 delivered, plus a few bob for bits, it’s a bargain!
(and you get 2 spare solenoids!).

Thank you for everyones comments.

I had thought that it was just not working. Seems I’ll have to fit a kit. I had a Toyota Corolla FXGT a few years back that I put a central locking kit in, so not a biggie.

I prefer central locking from a security point of value. I am so used to central locking I forget the other door doesn’t lock when I get out.

Went for a cruise and car went prefectly. Car was brought for my girlfriend to drive mostly and she can only drive automatic’s. Which is a shame because I love manuals, but still good fun. Beautifull little car. As you may be aware from my profile I actually live in New Zealand. If any of you have been here I drove the Able Tasman National Park, a very beautiful part of the country.

Thank you again for your help.

Regards
