Do any 17" wheels from other Mazdas fit the NC?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2008 NC PRHT
  2. I’m based near: Sussex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Upgrading wheels to 17"

Any ideas on other wheels from Mazda models that fit an MX5 NC? Am wondering of there are some other 17" options that aren’t currently being chased down on ebay by every MX5 owners with 16" rims!

Also, I saw some Honda wheels that have the same stud pattern and offset, is that all I need to know or are there other considerations? I saw someone on a US forum had fitted Subaru STI wheels to their NC, is that a known fitment?

Thanks for any pointers.

Ian

The NC (Mk3) has 5 studs, where as the other models have 4.

These are the bolt pattern measurements that are compatible with each generation:

NA: 4×100
NB: 4×100
NC: 5×114.3
ND: 4×100

The extract above came from the attached link, which is fairly comprehensive.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen RX8 wheels fitted to the NC

the wheels on mine are Enkie, but I bought them off a guy who had them on a mitsubishi FTO

the spec. is:
5x114.3 PCD
67.1mm centre bore
+55 offset

you can use a smaller offset, but watch you don’t foul the rear arches, or they will need rolling. After market wheels have rings that fit to make the centre bore correct. There are many cars use these fitment

Blimey - thanks for that chaps, looks like I’m spoilt for choice then!!

I found this website which was helpful re sizing wheels up - Alloy Wheel Fitment Guide 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 stud hubs - Papa Smith Custom but is there any real “no no”/minimums on backspacing, etc?

Thanks all for chipping in - keep it coming!!

Seen a few with Subaru wheels but I think they need boreing to fit.

Prodrive PZ alloys are correct fitment and quite light but 18"

So I just need to find somebody with a Ferrari FF and I could offer to swap my MX-5’s wheels with theirs. How could they possibly resist?

The Subaru fitment wheels look aftermarket, in which case the centre bore will have a ring for different sizes (often referred to as a spigot ring)

set on ebay now for only £1600 but not sure what a 20" would look like on a 5

A very good choice would be these Traklite Gear 17x7.5 et45 from our friend Nick D: trakLite Gear 17" 5 x 114.3
They are strong, very light (6.9kg) and a very reasonable price. I have a mk1, but I have a set of these on my Subaru.

They are standard 2005 Impreza STI alloys made by Enkei but they only have a 56.1 mm center bore but can be machined to 67.1. I have seen a few NCs with them on in the UK, look quite good 8" wide, 55 offset.

Don’t forget to take into account what they look like and how heavy they are. I’ve only got those on as they had good tyres on and were cheap.

As H61 suggests: Traklites are the wheels I fitted to my 2014 MK3.73 Sport Tech Recaro
suitably shod with 215/45/17 Kumhos. (Car currently on standard Mazda 16" wheels with
Nokian 205/55/16 winter tyres).
Traklites have been hibernating, they will be fitted late March early April.
