I have been trying to work out the exact spec of my 1999 mk2 roadster.
It was imported in 2008 by dandy cars and all the paperwork describes it as a 1.8 vr limited. Everywhere I look on the Internet and however I search the only vr limited cars I see are mk1’s ?
the cars spec is as follows…
1.8 engine with bp5a inlet cam and exhaust manifold, 7500rpm redline, 6 speed, torsen lsd, 6pm dials, nardi wheel and gearknob
Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a mk2 vr-limited? Is my car spec particularly rare? (Higher redline, 6pm dials, 5A cam)
I may be considering selling soon special edition or not. What value would those of you in the know put on a car like this? It had one previous uk owner from 2008 to when I bought it early last year. It has done 87,000 miles and has full service history from the date of import. I had the Cambelt changed last year and a TR Lane roll bar fitted. The car was undersealed in 2008, chassis rails are fine and have now been cavity filled. Radio has been changed for a DAB/CD/USB playing unit. Everything else standard.
You have an RS limited - I found this detail on it…
the mk2 rs has the bp05 intake camshaft as used on the USA mazdaspeed turbo models which gives 145 bhp as opposed to the bp4w in the uk models
The MK2 RS was a trim level and not a limited edition so there were no limited numbers…loads about.
The oem alloys were the mazda (enkei) 5 spokes
suspension was a lowered bilstein affair
lightweight flywheel as standard 14lbs
redline is actually 7250rpm but the gauges goto 7500
the oem aero kit was an optional extra…ie , front lip , skirts, boot spoiler , and mudflaps
3 spoke nardi airbag and leather 6 speed knob
bose sound system
MK2 imports are much rarer than the MK1 but quite a number were brought into the country. Most are RS Limited 1.8 cars 1997 - 9.
As with all early MK2 style cars, a lot have been broken but there are still quite a number of RS Limited cars in the UK. Values vary a lot with condition but there will always be extra intrinsic value because of the 6 speed gearbox and torsen diff.
Thanks for all your replies so far, I have posted some pics below and it is the interior that is throwing me a bit as it has cloth seats.
I know the seats are four simple bolts and could have been changed but the door cards are just standard black.
Also, the japanese text on the door jam sticker under suspension translates as ‘standard’
Could it be when originally ordered the buyer wanted all the fast parts but saved some money on non-leather interior and decided on normal suspension for comfort reasons? Either that or I have some weird frankenstein car :-)
To be honest if the consensus is that it has the 145bhp engine and lightened flywheel that is the important bit Interior & suspension easy to upgrade if needed.
The other pics show the wheels and the BP5A stamp on the exhaust manifold cover/heat shield:
Agree with rhino666, looks to me to be a Mk2 NB RS, although most I’ve seen have the side skirts like my Mk2 Sport LE. Does the car have a front lip spoiler and fog lights?
Mine is a VS, imported as a new car, factory Aero body kit, 6 speed, wooden Nardi wheel etc, biege hood, biege leather interior. It came with 14" wheels. Higher BHP etc.
I imagine there are only a few of these in the UK and even less of the NR model?
The number of special edition cars getting scrapped concerns me. One car going may not be a problem but if I hear of 4 or 5 from a total of 400, it is understandable that these will get very rare at some stage.
Thanks, I have spent a lot on it having all the rust cut out and replaced with fresh metal and a full respray. There are a few VS models around, normally green, black or blue, all seem to have the biege interior but I have never seen another with the factory body kit.
