Does the zip go from driver>passenger or passenger>drive side of NA soft top?

Hi,

    Please could somebody tell me where the zipper should be located on the NA’s zipped window. Does it sit behind the drivers headrest and zip over to the passengers or the passenger headrest over to the driver?

The car I bought had the zipper in the glove box and I’m currently putting it back on the zip itself :slight_smile:

Mine opens from the passenger side.

When my rear screen is secured the zip closes on the passenger side (RHD).

Thanks for the replies, since you both appear to have different sides for the zip perhaps one could be aftermarket? or the zip works either way round so it’s personal preference about its position.

Night stopped play for me anyway so hopefully if I manage to beat tomorrows’ rain I’ll manage to get it sorted.

Is it just me or are those two answers the same?

Opens from the passenger side

When closed the zip is on the passenger side.

 

    And just to confirm my suspicions I have just gone out to my workshop and raised the roof on my MK1, window open zip on passenger side window closed zip on drivers side, now I am confused.

All the ones I have seen unzip from nearside to offside and zip back up from offside to nearside. Amazing how such a simple concept can be so confusing.

If you wanted, you could probably fit the zip after turning it 180 degrees from its original position to reverse the action.

Not only that but after asking if one could be aftermarket I look through the folder of documentation that came with the car only to find out mine’s aftermarket anyway.

I think I’ll just put it on how everyone here says theirs is and see how it goes.

The zip I’m now trying to put on is actually a recently purchased genuine mx5 zip since after getting the old glove box zip back onto the zipper the other day - and right after removing the stitching the last owner had put on to keep the window up - the old zip fell to pieces on me when I tried to zip it up (luckily the genuine zip appears to fit the aftermarket hoods’ zip which is something).

Yes reading those posts although they mean the same thing can be read differently.

When my rear screen is zipped shut the “toggle” or bit you get hold of to unzip the window is usually behind the passenger, when the window is unzipped the “toggle” end up behind the driver.

Clear as mud.
