Mrs.Stevieboy is keen to introduce a canine companion into the family and , whilst her Honda Jazz will cope admirably , there will be times when the pooch will need to travel with us in the Merlot . I wonder how other MXers cope ?
Years ago we had a MG Midget and a german shepard. The tent went in the boot and the dog behind the seats, which she loved. Now not sure how you would fit a dog in an MX5, but I’m sure it can be done, after all it is a member of the family. Good luck and have fun trying.
As well as any tips you get, check with your insurer because if your dog is not properly/legally restrained your insurance could be invalidated, a loose dog is not really an option. You can get info by doing a web search.
My medium sized Labrador always happily sat on the passenger seat, get a harness for security. On one occasion I even fitted another in the footwell at the same time for a short trip. It’s a perfect car for dogs.
Our sheltie sits in the passenger seat several times each week when I take her to doggy daycare, enough space. Haven’t tried her in the footwell when wife is in passenger seat, she usually sits in her lap. Yes, I know this is not a good idea, especially as we have a Mk2 (can’t switch the airbag off), no airbag in Mk1 and able to switch off in Mk2.5, 3 and 4 (so I understand)
Took my German Shepherd to the spring rally this year. Took out the passenger seat of the Mk2 and replaced with dog cushion. Dexter loved it! Not sure a similar arrangement would work for Mrs Stevieboy though!
Jess our cocker spaniel goes most places with us in our Mk1. She travels in the passenger footwell by my wife’s feet. She’s a great traveller and tends to curl up tight so takes up very little space, only surfacing every now and then to see where we are.
I’ve permanently attached a short lead into the bottom of the footwell so that we can restrict her to the footwell if required, which I just tuck under the mat if she’s not with us (not very often). You can see the lead in this photo.
