Hello peeps, need some input please. Finally, whoopee, have tracked down and just picked up a 2014 Mk3.75 that needs a lot of winter tlc. One job is the two door mirror covers that both have scratches which I’m gonna tackle. First option was to go for new chrome covers, but can’t seem to track any down for this model, so gonna have a go at a respray with some silver and lacquer spray paint. Does anyone have any experience of the nearest and best colour match that suits these mirrors. Thanks
Well the obvious answer would be to paint them in the body colour or weren’t they originally?
If you just want to do them differently then I’d chose not a bright in your face silver, probably matt/satin finish. You don’t say what the car colour is
Hi MickAP, the body colour, I think, is, crystal blue pearl, but the mirrors are a satin silver gloss, am trying to keep it authentic looking, so just need a colour that’s as near as possible. Probably something daft as a “Peugeot sparkling silver” or even the original Mazda colour, I just don’t know and am hoping someone out there has done a respray with great results.
Cheers
My first reaction was ‘I thought they were body coloured’ but I found a Sport Venture on eBay in blue with silver mirrors, so unless this is the one you purchased, I was wrong.
Hi Keat63, this is the car, but not the one on Ebay. A lot of this model are the coupe, I much prefer the good old “ragtop” dont really want to paint it the same as the car.
Interesting idea, must admit never thought of that.
Is the one you’re looking at a Sport Venture?
There are 3 on eBay and all have silver mirror caps.
As for the cap colour, i guess anything silver wouldn’t look out of place.
Seems that the Sport Venture did have silver mirrors.
Considering that the ND came out in 2014, was this a tweaked version of the NC to boost sales and get the unsold ones out of storage / forecourts etc
The actual Mk3 started in 2005 - 2008, then the Mk3.5 (NC-FL) was 2009 - 2013 and the Mk 3.75 ( NC-FL2) 2013 - 2015. (info courtesy of MazdaMX5 Parts.co) The Mk4 didn’t start until 2015, so looks like they have overlapped the years. And think your right will have to try and take the cap off and take it to Halfords to get the nearest match.
I have the MK3, if the 3.75 mirror is like mine, then the cap doesn’t come off as such.
I’m pretty sure, the cap (as we are calling it) is part of the mirror body.
I think that the whole mirror has to come off.
Yeah, have just found that out, tried to very gently prise it off with a thin plastic spatula tool I have but wasn’t having any of it. Anyway have masked off and gently sanded the scratches out so just need some primer filler and the paint, jobs a good un!!
