In a previous thread, I added new door cards. These are made in plywood so the new door pockets were a breeze to fit.
They are aimed at the camper van/caravan market and I bought them on Amazon, but a web search or eBay will find alternative options. They are big enough to hold a large phone (mine is an iPhone7+), a wallet or sunglasses etc.
They are made of a tough plastic and have a rubberised netting that stretches slightly, not as much as elastic does but enough to change shape and hold your wallet comfortably.
As my door cards are plywood, I used 7mm screws to hold the pockets onto the door card. I did not have any black screws, but used a sharpie pen afterwards to colour them black.
Here is what I bought on Amazon. My iPhone 7 fits perfectly and streams music or internet radio with no issues.
