You can buy magnetic protector strips that you can easily put on/off the car.
Well - you could be right.
It could be a magnetic strip.
It was always reversed in with the drivers door against the garden area in the work car park and so, yes, on 3rd thoughts it could be a pinickerty mk4 owner protecting their very precious car from dings in the car park.
It could have been a magnetic version of one of these things on ebay
I got thin clear plastic from amazon and use that to protect the doors on my 5.
you will need to periodically take that off and clean it and the door edge.
otherwise water, dirt and grit will build up and overtime it will cause paint issues and eventually rust!
