Down pipe or front pipe on an 1.6 automatic

Is there a difference between the down pipes on 1.6 NA on a manual or an automatic?

The reason I ask is http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/stainless-high-flow-downpipe-19891993-p-517.html says it doesn’t fit auto’s, which leads me to believe there is a difference. Although on their standard one http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/genuine-mazda-front-pipe-models-19891993-p-1436.html nothing is mentioned about auto’s.

Cheers.

The down-pipe is considerably longer on an auto as the catalyst has to go much further back as there is no room for it to live further forward due to a much wider transmission base. As a result, the cat-back length for the exhaust is also different, it might be cheaper to go to somewhere like Powerflow Exhausts and have a stainless system custom made for your car.

Even more confused now. That staement got me worried that the de-cat, rear pipe and back box I got from mx5parts wouuldn’t fit. http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/stainless-steel-exhaust-mazda-p-1114.html

Just tried it all on and it fits like a dream. So if the distance from the front of cat backwards is the same, surely the distance from the front of the cat forwards must be the same? So the front pipes must be the same for manual and automatic?

Oh well if it fits then happy days, I was under one yesterday and it certainly looked very different to the manual layout, might have been an optical illusion. . .

The OEM downpipe is the same for manual or automatic 1.6 mk1’s.  Mazda part no. B690-40-500B.

Might have to get the tape measures out so we can all have a frontpipe length contest! I’ve emailed mx5parts to see if they think there is a difference.

Good stuff! Cheers for that.

Thumbs up

And so is the cat and back section unless the later MX5.

Just to confirm. The front pipe for a NA6 import will be exactlt the same as a UK MX5 NA1 model?

yes

Cheers.
