Hi all, I’ve been meaning to buy a trumbone brush for cleaning the roof drains on my MK1 but just havent got around to it.
At the weekend I was wandering about the local shops and came up with a cheap DIY alternative and thought I would share it. Someone may find it useful. In Wilko I bought a lenght of curtain wire for 60p and in Robert Dyas I got a set of 4 spout brushes, £1.69. I cut the wire loop of the end of one of the brushes and screwed it into the end of the curtain wire. I made dam sure it was well and truly jammed in to be sure it wouldn’t come off in the tube ( maybe use glue as well ) and there you go, a drain cleaning brush for £2.29, and three brushes left over. Just tried it this morning and works a treat.
Excellent idea! As I wander the shops far away from the Christmas crowds (Some Hope!!) I will pick up the bits and bobs to make one of these. Like you i have a list of “To Do” things…this will move to second place after sorting my seized near side front brake (car into garage tomorrow) my gut feeling is to change brake calliper, sliders and brake fluid in one go. At least then it is sorted for Christmas.
I use one of the trombone brushes - but also use the thin end of a carp rod - the drain hole next to the petrol cap is a bit stiff to get the brush through but as the rod end goes through I know any water will as well
