Dreaded Sill Rust - South Wales or Southampton Repair?

Hi, my Mark 1 has the dreaded sill rust at the rear. I’ve had it repaired a few years ago but I don’t think it was done properly.

I live in Swansea, South Wales, does anyone know anywhere that carries out the repair that does a good job for less than an arm?

I’m also down in Southampton in a few weeks and have seen Doctor MX5 does the sill repair for a nice price, any feedback on his work?

Little bit of rust on arch circled in red as well.

You could contact John ( Taff Eunos ) he is in your neck of the woods . South Wales.

Hi, yes thanks Mal - no problem, we have in conjunction with Mark at Penarth MX5 and Honda Del Sol, a great little workshop in Barry and have a lot of experience of dealing with rotten sills, re-finishing and rust proofing.

Obviously the photos shown there are pre-repair last time around?

Give me a shout on 07966 154 465 and let`s arrange for you to bring it over for assessment.

John

Hi Taff Eunos, no the pictures are after I’ve taken an electric sander to it as the paintwork had started to bubble up. As you can see although it looked nice on top I’m not sure if much rust cutting and re-welding went on below!

I’ll give you a ring friday or Saturday when I have a bit of quiet time if that’s OK.

Cheers

You can see the plate that was used to repair it originally; the repair is ok, but in the intervening period the rest of the car has dissolved.

No problem, try and find the time to bring it down to Barry over the weekend and we will have a good look at what needs doing this time around.

Well Heath did indeed pop in and today after a 2 and a half day weldathon the drivers side is back as mazda intended.

after cutting her open on wednesday i was faced with quite a bit of rot if im honest.

so after cleaning it up back to solid metal then a few coats of acid to kill the rust and a 2 coats of rust sealer it was left to dry before a few coats of weld through zink primer was added.

first piece welded in and on to the others

i wont bore you with every pic but here we are after 3 coats of primer 3 coats of stone chip anouther 3 coats of primer 4 coats of top colour and then re do the lower chip paint to match what is on the car.

i think you will agree it looks much better now,

Whereabouts are you in Barry?
