I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Removing Dried sap from bodywork
Morning all, so i have a line of dried sap on my front wing and its driving me nuts, tried all the standard cleaning products/ processes and wont budge.
Anyone have any tips on removing with little damage to the paintwork? Seen on the internet that people say a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, but this also is not healthy for paint.
will attach an image when i get round to taking one.
Use hot water from the kettle…maybe let it cool slightly. Had sap on a mohair hood on a old zsport and a well know hood specialist told me to try this method. It worked really well.
Watched a video on the Forensic Detailing Channel a while back where he tried various different products on tree sap and came to the conclusion that the best thing for removing it is… water.
Also watched, great amount of detail on that channel. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to have done much though, think its almost baked to the paintwork on mine. ill get a photo when im home.
I’ve used white spirit for stubborn grease, tar and underseal overspray. Used it yesterday on the paintwork in the engine bay on the NC. Different paint on the Mk1 I’m guessing, go easy and do a small test first with a cotton bud.
Yes, both our cars were totally covered in the white / grey dust this morning. Nothing to do but give them both a proper wash, before it got too hot this afternoon !
The weather forecast I’ve just seen on TV, informed that hot dusty air is being drawn up from the continent, so it may well happen again tonight !
I’ve had the same problem the whole car on my nc,tried everything to get it off, polish, clay bar etc nothing shifted it,ended up getting a detalier in and he cut it out with angle wax polish £150,was fine until the next year where I had the same problem, such is life having trees overhanging my drive
I scraped of the lumps carefully with a stanley blade in a holder and then used lots of WD40 with much elbow grease to remove the remainder. Took a few attempts but eventually removed it, then used Meguiars compound, polish, and wax to finish it off.
Now it’s clean invest in a cover, I bought one off the bay for under £40 a worthwhile purchase.
Protects the car from tree sap, cats and bird detritus, luckily I only have to worry about birds and cats.
Here is your answer………
I can’t believe more people don’t know about this stuff. No elbow grease required. Dried on sap, comes off with a couple of wipes. Brilliant stuff!
I haven’t used it on tree sap, but it does clean up the awful sealant on the door inner weather proofing: goo gone. Cleans up glues etc too, and hasn’t damaged the paint work.
