Drifting?

As Muppet points out, I don’t have a license (never bothered trying for one as I wasn’t in a position to compete) and I’m also well rusty on the drifting side of things as I’ve not been in the better part of 6 months. But I’m going drifting on the 13th next month and will hopefully be back in the saddle before too long.

I’d like some information on the course before deciding one way or another. Entry speed, what the surface is like, that kind of thing, from someone who has drifted it.

I’ve been thinking and to be honest, I don’t think I’ll want to be involved with this. Much as I am very pleased with my own ability and believe myself to be of a BDC standard, drift demos are about showing off drifting at its highest level to people who might not be aware of what a technically demanding skill it is. Great as it would be to get some seat time on a good track at high speed, I don’t think my abilities are really good enough to show off drifting to its fullest.

Any news on this? I’ve had a couple of people ask if I’m going to be on track but I really can’t decide whether I’m even going to attend, what with limited mileage insurance and tyres and stuff to pay for.

I’m not a member of MX5OC any more, so I may be missing out on a lot of the information.

Saddly i wont be able to attend this as i am working in spain for those dates :frowning:

Shame Jamie. Will you be able to make round 5 at Llandow? I badly need to see how you’re doing that first corner.

yeah tell me about it! i will be at round 5 though adn the open. I have made sure of that!

Im in Spain at the moemnt, fly back wednesday night to finalise the car for norfolk, travel up thursday evening for friday and saturday practice. Im not likely to be doing sunday thoguh as i have paid to go to brawdy in west wales for seriously epic seat time, but if my NW team-mates cant make it then i will be at norfolk sunday. Its all up in the air at the moment

I hope the foreign work is worth the money,

Have you got the SR in yet or are you hoping for rain at the weekend?

I can’t wait to see you drive after the SR goes in…

Not really, but when im out here im not at home spending money on crap so it has its advantages. Everythign is paid for out here so i make money, particualry on the airport run ;).

It was oringaly meant to be in for norfolk, but work only started last thursday that im a bit disapointed about but its out of my hands. So yeah im hoping for rain, especialy as my clutch is on its last legs.

the sr will be in for rnd 5 though

The engine is currently sat in my spare prep shell with the engine mounts made, we have an s13 gear box mount we plan to use, adn an idea to solid mount the diff to do away with the ppf. Just waiting on the sump to be finished now.

I can’t wait to see you smoking round Llandow. Have you got a build thread hidden away somewhere?

I really cant wait either!!  ITs going to be an amazing little machine this time next year once i have everything set up how i want it adn it needs to be for the car.  At the moment its all thrown togeather.

I do have a build thread of soem sorts but no details on the swap, just a few pics as i have left the shell with the guy doing all the work while i am out here. The thread its self is on [whisper mode]Nutz[/whisper mode] which just hsows the work i had put into the car preseason before it failed at Donny :@. Over the winter i will be going anal on the car, redoing and tudying everything, renewing all parts that i can, adn sheeding any mroe weight that i can on a budget (although i may be as light as i can possibly go with out buying fancy Carbon wings/boots/bonnets etc). Once its all running ill stick a thread up on DW, but at the moment the car isnt worthy of it haha.

Oh, it will also be two colours as opposed to 6 hopefullt by the time of llandow

Great stuff!

If anyone is at the stage now and has an MX-5 Drift car, or any other kind of motorsport MX5, please EMAIL me details at alistair.clark@mazdaontrack.co.uk - and let me know if you’d be willing to put the car on a static stand in the paddock for people to drool over.
