'Drive the Five' Day 15th September

This Sunday, 15th September, celebrate the 35th anniversary of the MX-5’s launch in Britain by doing what your car does best – hitting the open road! :earth_africa:

Whether it’s a trip with friends, a scenic drive, or even just a quick errand, let’s get as many MX-5s on the road as possible. :red_car::dash:

Back in September 1989, Mazda unveiled the MX-5 to an eager British motoring public! With sales in the USA and Japan already vastly exceeding expectations the MX-5 was becoming a worldwide phenomenon. With production ramping up the, order book opened in Britain, the ‘home’ of the two-seater sports car!

To mark the 35th Anniversary of the launch in Britain this month we are encouraging members to mark the occasion by doing what your MX-5 was built to do, take to the road on Sunday 15th September.

Be it as part of a trip away, a drive to a meet up with friends, a Sunday lunch or even just a jaunt to the shops, whatever the occasion we’d like to encourage you to use your MX-5 that day to help see as many MX-5s as possible on the road across the country to help mark the occasion!

Your local Area team may already have some planned activities, or you may like to meet up with other owners at one of our arranged Drive Destinations at the Haynes Motor Museum or The Motorist on the day.

Wherever your journey takes you that day, choose your MX-5 to make it.

Some of us are trying to find out about ‘The Motorist’ event as there seems to be no further information available.
The Motorist site has no mention of it and the time of 9am is in contradiction of the information on the site which states ’ Please do not arrive before 10am you will be turned away.
If you can shed any light on this it would be appreciated.

Just turn up when you get there, they should have some dedicated space for us.
They advised from 9am, and can only go on what they said.

It is just a destination for people to meet up on Sunday not an event.

On the 15th I’ll be driving my 25AE to Hemel Snowdome, where I go skiing with my ski-club .

Over the last few years quite often a couple more 5s are in that car-park on the same Sunday afternoon as me every month, but I’ve yet to see a MX-5 O/C sticker in their windscreens and I’ve rarely seen the drivers.

I almost always park at the highest point in the car park, furthest away from the slope entrance, mainly to avoid the milling families and their giant SUVs.

Out for Drive Your 5 today. Started off with country lane route out to Field to Fork at Wooton Wawen (obligatory coffee and cake) then more cross country driving top down to Hanbury Hall nr Droitwich for a gentle walk in the extensive parkland and garden. Some other low volume car club had nabbed the prime position in front of the house! Then more country road cruising back home just before the rain started. Didn’t see another 5 the whole way!

I was out and about around Worcestershire too. Loop round from Kidderminster to Malvern area and back. Coffee at the Cob House. Only saw one other MX5, in Stourport, same colour as yours.

Well as I had to play the organ in three different churches today,

:musical_keyboard:

:musical_note: :notes: I celebrated by driving my 5 to all of them!
The joys of the jobbing organist! :innocent:

Great way to get there. I go to different places with my sax in the MX, when not loaded up with sound system.
Brilliant acoustics in some of the venues👍

As a North Thames interloper it was lovely to join my friend Alex for a scenic route across the Bristol Suspension Bridge via Burrington Combe, the Mendips and on down to Haynes International Motor Museum, where we reconnected with acquaintences made at Malvern, Thruxton and Gurston down from the Solent, Wessex and Western groups.

Thanks to Malcom from the Solent Team and everyone else involved at Haynes for making the day happen.

Hope everyone got home safe and sound.

A soggy one for anybody who went to the Motorist today. Nobody on site aware of any “special” parking but quite a few members managed to park up together.
