Driver booster cushion for ND (2023)

Having had my MX-5 for three weeks now, I’m loving it - except at only 5’ 1" (on a tall day) I’m really struggling to get a decent driving position (height/visibility).

I’ve tried a memory foam wedge but it starts off too hard and way too high (making it impossible to drive) - and while it gradually sinks down (after about 20 miles!) it’s still not the right size or shape for the sports seats.

I’m currently using a cheap scatter cushion I got from Dunelm that usually lives on my sofa - and it works perfect to give me the little bit of extra height I need - and soft enough I can push it into the space - but it bunches up and moves about - and getting into the car and then getting the cushion positioned in the right place under my ■■■ is a very inelegant affair to say the least!

So I really need a non-slip cushion/pad of a soft material so it feels good to sit on, probably either gel or just normal (not memory) foam, that will fit in the fairly narrow seats and give me about 2-3 cm ish height. If there is a way to attach it to the seats, even better. And black - so it looks unobtrusive with the black (and soul red) interior.

Has anyone found any good options - as I’ve been scouring the internet for days?

Have you considered lifting the seat with spacers and longer bolts ?

Couldn’t resist :grinning::grinning::grinning::grinning:

How about one of these? There are other options on Halfords website too.

I had a look at that Halfords one but think it’s too thick and too big/wide for the seats.

Would love to hear if anyone is using anything or has used something that’s still available that works for the seat size/shape.

Might be worth searching for wheelchair cushions?

This looks the best long-term option. Cushions on seats isn’t a good idea.

Will search wheelchair cushions and see if that will work short term.

The obvious next question is - does anyone know someone who could raise the seat as a long term measure? I’m in Gloucestershire (near Stroud).

I’m also a shorty being a shade over 5 foot but I can’t say I have any real issues. I have the steering column set lower down and it seems ok to me  That said I like sitting low down…

How about something on the lines of this?

Thanks for all your advice.

Having driven with a cushion for a fortnight, it’s definitely not a long term solution so have found someone who can lift the seat for me with longer bolts and spacers next week (should have been this week but they’re flooded out!).

As this is quite unusual it would be nice to have the process documented, would whoever is undertaking be prepared to photograph/lightly document the steps?

I don’t know - but I’ll certainly ask (and try and take photos myself).

Cool, thanks, it may help someone else in the future.

So… went over to Performance Link (Tewkesbury) and the guys there were brilliant.

Apparently the ND seats are harder to raise than the NC due to different fittings, but they spent ages making sure they got it just right and that it looked perfect too.

And now I don’t need a cushion! Very happy.
