Drivers door micro switch

New to site…How do get to the micro switch on the door barrel? Read loads of posts but none seem to clearly identify how to change micro switch on drivers door… cheers

Be careful when removing.

The microswitch clips to the lock barrel but the plastic is quite brittle.

I usually ease the bigger clip up off its lug with a precision screwdriver blade and then do the same with the smaller clip.

Have removed dozens without breakage but seem to remember broke one a while back.

Hi… Do you have to remove anything specific from the door… seems difficult to get to?

You have to remove the door card.

The handle is a bit of a fiddle as over to one side but 2 x 10mm nuts undone and it comes away.

The switch is connected to a cable o/s = red, n/s = yellow or is it the other way round?

Clipped to door with three black plastic I don’t know what you call them fixings and then a white plug to loom.

Why do you need to remove it, has it stopped arming alarm or central locking packed in?

When I open drivers door it sets alarm off…passenger door is fine and lights flash when alarm is set…tried a bit of wd40 in lock but with no success…

The two 10mm nuts hold the lock in place?.. are they protected by polystyrene?

I have exactly the same problem and managed to source a second hand micro switch assembly. Just tried to fit it and ran into a few problems. It’s fairly easy to remove the door card but I can’t figure out how to get to the lock end of the assembly as it is behind the metal doorframe! Any ideas appreciated

If you locked the car with the remote and then opened the door with the key, then yes, the alarm will go off.  It’s not a fault; designed that way.  It’s intended the car is locked and unlocked with the coded remote.  The door lock doesn’t have the means to recognise the key chip, so the system is designed to assume that opening the car with a key is an attempted break-in.  The alarm will stop when you put the key in the ignition.  Solution; always use the remote.

Thanks for the reply JS… The car does not have a remote only alarmed through the key activation…need to replace micro switch Mazda have informed me… OK on passenger door but not drivers door.

Whiskeymac… that’s my problem there must be easy way to get to micro switch… hopefully?

Let’s hope so, meanwhile I guess we have to use the passenger door lock.

I thought that MK2.5 door handle removal would be similar to the MK1 and MK2 cars I have worked on but as I receive these parts removed from the cars not qualified to fully comment. Colleague Doug Pillans of Pillans_MX who breaks the cars confirms that..........................
Yes it's different from mk1 and mk2 - there is a cover over the lock it has a clip holding it at the bottom and a 10 mm bolt at the top remove the bolt and prize a screwdriver at the side and pop the cover. The lock has 2 bars with plastic clip covers that just slide off with both hands to release it and the lock will fall out. Lock barrel is screwed to gold coloured metal plate with 2 x Philips head screws.

Hopefully this will help you guys get to your locks to check the micro switch function and wiring.
All you need to be able to do is manipulate the two plastic legs on the switch housing  that grip the lock barrel. This may be possible with just the cover removed but from my experience you do need good access to get these off and minimising the risk of breakage - not that that is a particular problem if the switch/cable is not working anyway.
If you need replacement micro switches, yellow wire or red please PM me as I have one or two cleaned, guaranteed examples available.

No problem.  I wasn’t sure whether your car had remote locking and the unexpected alarm can surprise owners with such cars.  It certainly appears your car is not recognising the operation of the lock barrel so the fault probably is the microswitch.
