Drivers seat collapse

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _3.5 2ltr_2009 Roadster. SPT Tech.
  2. I’m based near: Braintree
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on __ Driver’s seat. It hasn’t completely collapsed but, it is lower on the offside at the front. It operates and adjusts correctly, electrics are good. I am able to pull the front (door side) up, it clicks into position and looks pukka. Sit on it and that corner drops back down. I’ve had the seat out, checked the moving parts and all seems in order. Ideas on the resolution will be appreciated. It’s not the springing or upholstery and drops by one/two inches on that corner.

Sounds like the frame has broken at that corner. Will need to be stripped of the upholstery and welded back together. I’ve had similar problems with seats in the past breaking welds.

Thanks mate. Do you have any contacts, ideally down here that are able to carry out the work?

Sorry I dont have any contacts I’m up in East Yorkshire. Shouldn’t be to bad a job to tackle on your own, remove seat and electrical connections and remove squab section of upholstery and foam the get your local garage to weld the broken joint. Reassemble in reverse order.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oEtYyl9M_KA&t=101s I couldn’t find one for an mx5 seat but the same principles apply as per this video

Thank you Spelio.
