Drivers Side Window/hood Leaking

Just bought my mx5 last weekend and it seems to have developed a leaky roof/window seal over the past couple of days due to the crap weather weve been having in sunny ayrshire. I nipped to the shops earlier and noticed that the drivers side door was pretty wet and water was dripping down the A-pillar, down the gap between the dash and door and onto the sills. We did have some pretty severe rain earlier on today

Im guessing its the seals between the hood and the window that causing the problems, but what solutions are there to stop them from leaking?

Thanks, Sean.

 Try adjusting the locking hood latch first,there is also some adjustments to the hood side window seals,if you peel the seal away from the holding s/steel frames,you will find some phillip head screws,loosen them off and pull the seal frame more forwards towards the window and retighten up,do this all the way down on the other frames,it my take a bit of messing and trial and error until you get them right,but this is free,and will just cost time.

You will need to have the hood unlatched to do this{#emotions_dlg.thumb}

Also check the drain on the seal down the door piller(A post/windscreen),there is a sticky out bit towards the top which acts as a water catcher,and drains off through the seal to the bottom,is it out of shape or hard,letting water run past?or is it blocked?the Mk 2 is a better design than the Mk 1 version.

Thanks for the help. Ill get on this as soon as the weather gets better or i can get into my mates garage.

Did adjusting the door seals sort this out for you? I have a Mk2 with exactly the same problem and in v heavy (biblical) rain ended up with a pool of water in the footwell.

Check the weatherseal down the front of the door. This is hollow and acts as a drain and often gets blocked.

I`m glad its not just my mk2 then,

ive adjusted the roof tension and the water runs down the door rubber/drain ok and its still getting in when we have down poors but not when i stand there and poor a jug of water over it.Angry

Ive adjusted the tension on both roof clamps and so far ive had no water in the car after a week of downpours.Party

All the drains are clear and run freely. I moved the front rubber above the door out slightly on the hood which made a small difference. The roof clamps are both pretty tight. When I had the cam belt changed at the mx5restorer, Chris checked the roof out and moved the driver’s side window up slightly. So far so good. I think the leaking in very very heavy downpours was due to the little cup on the top of the door seal being overwhelmed rather than being blocked but I think it all now seals a lot better due to the window height being adjusted.
