Dying softop

  1. My model of MX-5 mk3is: __
  2. I’m based near: __chelmsford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __

Yes it’s me again. I dyed my softop yesterday extremely hot weather but did it in the shade. It’s come out streaky. Is there a certain brush I should be using. Maybe I should do it when it’s cooler. Also I don’t understand the WET concept. Help please

It may be helpful if you say which product you have used.

Leather care and repair black canvas dye

Just had a look at a sales video Bing Videos where he is dying a plain white piece of canvas. He implies that you can reverse the colour back to the original. It appears that it is water based and requires a ‘proofer’ to be applied after the dying application. Is this the product?

Renovo Soft Top Reviver is the best product. Applied quickly so that it keeps a wet line and without overlapping brush strokes.

+1 on Renovo.
I’ve done mine twice and just used a 3inch paint brush.

Did you mask up or just go carefully. I got tram lines on my roof What is the knack of doing it properly

Doing it quickly so that it does not dry whilst painting. Old sheets or blankets over bonnet and boot. Cling film on the glass and doors. that way you can dash about and not mark paintwork etc.

I did mine in the garage so it was in shade.
Just plastered it all over to be honest, with no thought as to keeping neat lines or anything.
Keep a damp rag close to hand for any big splashes, but they come off the paintwork with polish anyway.

I don’t recall any major issues.
