Finally finished and fitted new dynamic LED boot strip light. KITT and other sequences start when lights first come on and then return to full red strip. When brakes are applied strip goes brighter and LEDs sweep out from the centre.Thanks go to Dave [http://www.plastibots.com] for the original build and for sharing his project. Very nice. Don’t select the blue or green options on the road though.

Love it. If there’s ever an easy fit kit I’d probably go for this. Couldn’t build it myself though.
I’ve had long and interesting e-mail exchanges with Matt (Jet2) and Dave the designer at Plastibots about this project. It’s very much an experimenter’s project. While it would be possible to commercially produce something similar the costs would be unlikely to be worthwhile for a limited market. Small scale production would be very time consuming too.
Thanks Matt for sharing this with us and big thanks to Dave for freely sharing his design and programming files to everyone.
Knowing the work and time involved in developing a reliable and easy to install product for my simple static boot strip kit a project like this would be too much for me to take on. Matt had some problems with unreliable components on his build. Any similar problems on kits made for sale could be a killer for a small scale producer.
A great project with great results though.
