East or west from the Isle of Sheppey?

From Dorking, have a 4-day break next week starting with a night at Elmley Nature Reserve on the Isle of Sheppey.

Blank page for the remaining nights (we’ll chase the sun) so any recommendations for travelling east, west or north from there?

Picturesque scenery, nature and excellent food are top of the wishlist with Suffolk the current favourite with my wife.

Decision made on basis of weather forecast. We’re going east, following the coastal roads to overnight in Whitstable and Broadstairs and decide again from there.

So a Kent-based trip, essentially :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello from Whitstable, Broadstairs is very nice, Ramsgate harbour also very interesting. Although going back the way you came, Faversham ‘Standard Quay’ worth a look. Good luck parking in Whitstable, lots of visitors!

Hello, great to hear! We’ll probably do Faversham enroute from Elmley. Hotel in Tankerton so stroll in to Whitstable rather than risk the carparking bunfight! Looking forward to some Shepherd Neame and discovering some fine eateries along the way.

Would that be ‘The Marine Hotel’, walk in to town along the grassy slopes past the castle, down through the Tea Gardens past the cafe. Then ‘The Continental Hotel’. Through the harbour, narrow harbour street has interesting shops. In the town Wheelers oyster bar, Samphire, Birdies, Pearsons Arms, Old Neptune pub on the beach is good for a visit.

That’s the one! We went to Samphire some years ago and enjoyed it. Thanks for the tips :+1:

Oh and my wife is a massive oyster fan, but I’ve yet to be convinced so it’s her mission to convert me. I’ll suggest Wheelers to her in that case.

Lots of names bringing back happy memories when I worked for a company on Thanet Way (Amphenol) a number of years ago…

Sales team always used to joke if you stayed at Marine then you got a wardrobe but no hot water after 5pm and if you chose Continental then you had hot water all the time, but no wardrobe regardless of the time! Birdies… originally didn’t accept c/cards so always had a rush around collecting money from people to avoid washing pots!

Lovely place - Happy Days

Haha, hope it’s improved!

Hot water upgraded I heard… but I bet the ‘characterful’ creaky floors remain :+1:

You’ll love it - fab breakfast :fried_egg:
