Eastern / North Thames - Inter Region Norfolk Weekender - Friday 25th / Saturday 26th / Sunday 27th April

Good Morning

We have been working with our good friends from the North Thames Region for the past 3 or 4 months to arrange an inter region event based in and around North West Norfolk.

Having worked out most of the obstacles and arrangements we are very pleased to offer you a chance to join us for all or part of the weekend.

Itinerary

Friday 25th April

Members of The Eastern Region will meet and welcome our guests at the Premier Inn, Kings Lynn. to ensure everyone is settled in and are fully refreshed. We will return again, a little later on, for a bite to eat and a chat about the format of the weekend, which we hope you will find both interesting and enjoyable.

Saturday 26th April

Our intention is to join you at The Premier Inn around 09:30, with the aim to leave between 09:45 and 10:00.

Leg 1 : A 43.3 mile / 75-90 minute drive in an Easterly direction, passing through the villages of Gayton, Litcham, Mileham and Brisley to North Elmham, before turning North towards Guist and Holt.

Our first stop of the day will be at The North Norfolk Preserved Railway Station at Holt, (part of the ‘Poppy Line), for a Tea, Coffee and Comfort break and, if you wish a look around the station, rail yard and small museum.

A Steam and Heritage Diesel Service will be in operation on the day of our drive.

Leg 2: A 29.3 mile / 60 minute drive to Bawdeswell Garden Centre, via the North Norfolk Coastal Road, passing through Weybourne and on to the beautiful seaside town of Sheringham, before turning inland towards Little Barningham, Saxthorpe, Cawston and Reepham and on to our Lunch Stop at Bawdeswell.

Leg 3 : A 45 mile / 90 minute drive back to Kings Lynn, via Swanton Morley, Gressenhall and Great Dunham, over the cattle grid to visit the ‘wild’ ponies of Dunham, before swinging South and East towards Southacre, West Acre, East Walton and Hillington, (passing The Ffolkes Arms, the home of The North West Norfolk Group), before swinging back in a Northerly direction towards The Royal Sandringham Estate. (Optional Stop for afternoon Tea / Coffee and Comfort Break).

The final part of Saturday’s Journey takes us back to the Premier Inn, via Snettisham, Ingoldisthorpe and Dersingham

Members of the Eastern - North West Norfolk Region will then leave you in peace for an hour or two before returning to have dinner and a well earned ‘Shandy’ with you all.

Sunday 27th April

Sunday will be a more leisurely day with members of the N-WN area, arriving at The Premier Inn between 10:00 and 10:15, leaving at 10:30 for a 3 Leg drive of around 45-50 miles.

Leg 1: An 11 miles / 30 minute drive into Old Kings Lynn, taking in the charms of the South Quay, Custom House Basin, (The location for the Hollywood Movie, ‘Revolution’, in the late 80’s, starring Al Pacino and Donald Sutherland), then into Kings Street and the Tuesday Market Place before heading out into the country towards Castle Rising, eventually stopping off at the former Royal Station at Wolferton.

Wolferton is now privately owned, however, the owner Richard Brown has allowed us access to the station, and workshop, via the ‘private’ entrance used by the Royal Family.

Leg 2: A 21 mile / 60 minute drive through North West Norfolk, to ‘Sunny Hunny’ or Hunstanton to those from further afield. Hunstanton is the only East Coast resort that faces West, which means wonderful sunrises and sunsets can be seen throughout the year.

Our drive will start by heading away from the coast towards the former RAF / Coastal Command Airfield at Bircham Newton, which is now run as a museum, before heading North to Docking and then West along the ‘coast road’ into Hunstanton for a chance to enjoy all the delights of the seaside, or take a walk along the seashore or cliff tops, even take the time to get some delicious Fish and Chips.

Leg 3 : A short 19 mile / 40 minute drive South on the A149 from Hunstanton to The Norfolk Lavender Fields at Heacham, (optional stop to take in the sight and smell of the lavender fields and visit the shop). We then continue South, leaving the A149 and passing through the villages of Snettisham, Ingoldisthorpe and Dersingham, before rejoining the A149 on the trip back to either the A10 for those on their homeward journey or The Premier Inn for those staying an extra night.

A welcome guide containing maps, directions and points of interest will be emailed to those attending.

We will have N-WN members intersperced in the convoy to ensure, wherever possible, we stay together and of course a ‘Tail End Charlie’ to round up anyone who becomes detached.

If you would like to stay for the whole of the weekend, we are basing ourselves at: The Premier Inn, Clenchwharton Road, Kings Lynn, PE34 3LW.

If you would like to attend this event on a daily basis please let us know by 31st March.

  1. The Day(s) you will be with us?
  2. Would you like to book dinner at The Premier Inn, (if so, which days)?
  3. If you have booked a stay at The Premier Inn?

We look forward to seeing you in April
