Hi, I’m doing a track day in my 2007 NC 2.0 Sport in May. Friends that do not have MX-5’s have recommended getting these pads for the day and for use on the road afterwards. My current Mazda pads are getting low so I’m considering doing this. Does anyone have experience of yellow stuff pads on an NC both on the track and on the road? They are not cheap so want some recommendations before spending £150 on a full set.
Thanks NickD, I will call you when I buy. My car is still under warranty from the Mazda dealer, does anyone know if they get funny about non OEM pads being fitted? If so then how do the OEM pads shape up on the track?
I had Yellow Stuff pads on my 06 2.0 Sport which I used for track days and loved them both on track and on the road. The only down side I would say they have is that they do produce quite a bit more brake dust so you’ll find yourself cleaning your wheels more often. The other thing I would recommend you do is make sure your brake fluid is not too old and a decent quality, ideally at least Dot4.
Brake pads won’t affect warranty, they are a consumable.
How your pads react is down to how you drive. Track work will put far more energy into your brakes than the road ever will. Road pads or more correctly “normal” pads are not designed for the heat they will experience and will not fair as well as higher temperature rated ones.
