EGR delete

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NB
  2. I’m based near: __Lincoln
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __EGR delete

Hello everyone.
I have just treated myself to a 4-2-1 exhaust from MX-5 Parts while their sale is on.
I’ve noticed that the connection to the exhaust where the pipe from the EGR system enters the manifold is different from stock.
Can anyone advise whether it is possible to delete the EGR system entirely please?
What affect does this have on the 1.8 engine?
If this is not possible, would anyone know where I might find an adaptor to connect the OE fitting to the new exhaust please?
Thanks for any help or insight you may be able to offer.
Cheers,
Guy

Are you sure you have not received a Mk1 1.8 manifold? The EGR fittings are different. In addition, the EGR changed in 2000-2001, with the introduction of the NB-FL (NB2).

MX5parts Mk1 1.8 header, with supplied EGR blanking cap fitted.

Hi saz9961, thanks for the reply.
The header I’ve bought looks a little different to the one in your image. The input for the EGR is on the rearmost branch of the manifold but is a female thread. The end of the EGR pipework on the car also looks to be female.
Let me see if I can figure a way to upload a pic or two…

Is your car a NB1 or NB2 (facelift). MX5parts advertise the manifold as for 1998-2001, which make no sense, unless you are in the US (NB2 came out in the 2001 model year). 99 model is female fitting, the NB2 is male fitting. You need to buy a new EGR tube for an earlier car from Mazda.

I

My car is NB1, registered in 2000.
I’m in the UK and the car is UK spec as far as I know. It was first registered in the UK.

EGR delete:

Add a male delete plug (FM etc)

You car has this:

Unless you do an egr delete, you need this

Thanks saz9961, much appreciated.

Re: EGR delete. Do you know how it affects the car? Are emissions adversely affected or will I notice any difference with the way she runs?

Cheers.

Imports run fine without a EGR. Not sure about emissions.

Personally, I would complain to MX5parts, and get them to send you the EGR pipe, because they sold something not fit for purpose (it doesn’t fit your 2000 car, despite them saying it will fit a 98-01). I did this when they sold me the header, despite me getting the owner to promise the header will fit a 96 Roadster fine. It didn’t.
