anyone know what pressure it takes on the egr for it to operate?

Assuming it’s an NA, they work off intake manifold vacuum don’t they? The engine should stall or run roughly at idle with 5.4-12.0 kpa applied.

thanks for the reply. So if I pull off the hose to the valve and apply a vac between those values it should cause the valve to open and hence run badly?

Apply the vacuum directly to the EGR valve, bypass the 2 solenoid valves.
