Hi All, I am taking a cross channel trip in may on newhaven to dieppe and back and would like to continue to do so in future. Has anyone taken a lowered ND on this route. I desperately want to put the eibach springs and drop the car from standard ride height by about 25-30mm but dont want to scrape the car all over the place. How do people find the ND once lowered in general, are speed bumps an issue or is it still relatively stress free?
Thanks
I had the Mazda lowered springs - are they Eibachs, canât recall - fitted in 2018. Never grounded once, not even on bumpy single tracks or the tank trap access road to Melbourne drag strip!
I donât give them a second thought.
Mazda lowering springs are Eibachs, @John_Aston is correct.
I have had them on both of mine, no issues on speed bumps etc.
I have not had a problem with mine either.
They are well worth any possible trade off in my mind.
I was on BBRâs lowering springs and Bilstein (OEM) shocks and now Iâm on MeisterRs. I think youâll get rubbing on the arches before you hit real clearance issues as the overhangs are short on the ND. I say this because I get a touch of rubbing in very specific circumstances (manoeuvring at full lock on certain inclines) but so far havenât had an issue with speed bumps, car parks etc. I guess if you are going on a ferry you may want to hit the ramps at an angle, just to be safe.
Thanks all. Anyone got any before and after pics (side on in particular) of how the car sits and gap in wheel arches.

My car is a 2.0 sport so has the Bilstein shocks and this only dropped the car by about 20mm. Would have been a bigger drop with standard shocks I assume.
Ok youâve convinced me ;p
Looking good, those pics.
One question: Has anyone fitted the lowering springs on the standard (non Bilstein) shocks, as per what are present on the 1.5L and the âolderâ 2L Sel-Nav? Just wondered if that would be fine/strange? Stupid question, granted.
No rub from 25mm spacers all round? Iâve read all over the place the max for no rub is 15mm front and 20mm rear?
Yes I have installed on the standard shocks on my 1.5 and I have no problems and the car is much more driveable for it
Cheers
Contributing to the before and after pictures. This time on a 2015 1.5l on standard shocks.
Difference was (a bit) more noticeable than the pictures show. Biggest difference however was how the car drove. I am not a racer but the âhandlingâ was much improved.
I only once caught the exhaust bracket bumping off a higher than usual kerb. Which was something I would normally never do .
Never regret fitting them. But did have to take them off and fit the old ones back on when I part exchange the car, which was a condition of the sale.
So it might be worth keeping hold of the old springs ⌠because you never know what might come next

Yes rub, 25mm on the rear is fine, 25mm on the front usually causes rub but this does seem to depend on your alignment
I recognise that bottom photo, thatâs where our group always meets up before heading through The Chunnel
Yeah, I was a bit early for my crossing so time for the worst cup of coffee in the world!
Regarding rubbing, some have solved this by warming the arch liner slightly and pushing it away. See: MX5 ND Tyres Rubbing with spacers and coilovers - #4 by fozzy
i am lowered on coilovers (YSR).
i am 115mm ground clearence at the front pinch weld, aprox 125mm rear i dont touch a single speed bump.
with my rake angle, my aero front spoilers clearence is around 110mm at the tip (which would be the fist part of the car to make contact on a bump or slope)
i am only this high up, as my front wheels start to rub on full lock if i go lower. otherwise, i would be lower.
my previous car i was running 105mm gc at the front. again never hit a speed bump (but must have been bloody close), and i also took that on the eurotunnel train AND the scotland car ferries no issues. (the scotland boat ferries are really âbadâ. if 105mm can make those, then youll be fine everywhere else)
pics for fun
105mm from the side on my lotus, which got me around no issue (very stiff springs mind you)
and 115m ND in its current stance
in short, the eibachs wont drop you as low as 115mm. youâll be fine
