I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: how to remove the electric wing mirrors door switch
I’ve searched the web but none of the solutions look like my car door.
I know I have to lever up the door trim within which the switch sits but puzzled how to do that with the door arm still in situ.
Reason for removal of the switch is that it’s not adjusting the mirrors. All relevant fuses look good, so hoping that the switch contacts are just dirty.
Prise the silver cap off to reveal a screw. You can see a screw in the cup holder too. There’s a third screw under the plastic cover plate behind the door release handle/lever, the plate just prises off. Once the screws are removed you can get you fingers or a trim removal tool under the bottom of the door card and pull it towards you. This should release the door card from the door frame eventually when it’s free of all the clips around the door. The top of the door card hooks over the top of the door.
You can then gain access to the mirror switch connections. You’ll need to release the speaker connection too then the door handle, this just twists 45° to remove from its mounting slot in the card.
Replacement is of course a reversal of removal but you may need some new clips, the white ones, they can get brittle and break upon removal or get stuck in the door frame instead of coming out with the door card.
The upright handle has a screw through the bottom from inside the door. This handle (1) has to come off before that whole switch panel (3) can be unclipped, and the panel (2) aft of it might also be holding it down. The numbers refer to the sequence for dismantling the whole door inner panel. Picture from the usual Mellens source.
Years ago I bought a CD (not obviously available right now) containing the Mellens pdfs of the old USA manuals. This saves me from messing about on flaky internet.
Currently there is a working web link (but sometimes it’s elsewhere)
