Does anyone know if there is a small vacuum pump on the market suitable for brake bleeding? Either 12 or 230 volt. It would make the job much easier but all the power operated ones I can find on the market are air operated.

A very expensive 12v pressure bleeder! But I doubt it’ll have an adaptor cap to fit the MX-5 anyway.
Thankyou for your reply Robbie. As you said, just a little on the expensive side. I much prefer bleeding brakes using vacuum, I have a pressure bleeder but it is time consuming to set up and can be messy and it does not have a cap to fit the master cylinder, but the top from a 200g. jar of Nescafe coffee fits very well! and can be easily adapted.

MityVac hand-operated pumps used to be a popular tool for vacuum brake bleeding.
Yes I know I have got one, I was trying to eliminate the hard work! Anything to make life a bit easier!
Regards and thanks for the reply Geoff Peace
Fair enough. Not sure how vaccum bleeders driven by an air compressor are supposed to work, unless they work like a syphon fed spray gun. Hardly the most efficient way of creating a vacuum for shifting reasonable amounts of hydraulic fluid, I would have thought.
If you already have the brake fluid pot attachment for the MityVac then you could connect it up to one of the vacuum ports on the inlet manifold and run the engine.
A windscreen washer pump might work, they are usually very cheap.
Why not fit automatic bleed valves then all you have to do is open the valve just a little and pump the foot brake two times and the job is done for that brake. You have to do it four times and make sure that the brake reservoir is kept topped up but that’s all.
Inside every abandoned fridge and freezer is a 240V electric vacuum pump. You can get them for free.
I used mine for vacuum bagging carbon fibre parts - you can generate a serious vacuum with them.
Thankyou for your reply Captain Muppet. Now your suggestion interests me a good deal could you possibly give me some more details? I would be most grateful.
