Electric window is now a wind hole

Operated the window switch to close the window. A loud “snap” noise preceded nothing happening. I guess the cable has snapped. Can the cable be replaced or is a new/second hand mechanism required?

You can replace the cables, MX5partsbsell them I believe. A used regulator is another option, but I’d go down the cable route. You can also buy just the regulator (called arm & base) from Mazda and fit your existing motor to that. There was a guide to changing the cables in Soft Top Hardtop a few issues back.

Order this as well as cables:

The cable wraps around this, and when it snaps, it can gouge this up pretty bad (soft plastic).

Thanks. Got the kit from MX5 Parts. (2 X cables and plastic winding drum). All fitted and greased. Greased the other side before that snaps as well.

Also greased and serviced both the door locks whilst inside the doors. The spring on the rain flap on the drivers lock had been broken since I bought the, car and the lock was internally corroded and difficult to use. I had a second hand lock in good condition so I stripped both the barrel units and made one good one. Out of the 8 tumbler slides, I only had to use 3 of the old ones which I polished with Brasso to clean off the corrosion. After re-keying all the parts into the good lock assembly I now have a door lock which feel like new.
