I am in the process of fitting electric windows to my MK1, I have all the bits - original switches and original motors and mechanism.
Despite the snow I thought I would fit the drivers side today and all went well until I tried to operate the window, dead as a dodo!! A quick check revealed the 30amp fuse was OK, I also have power to the switches and they seem to operate correctly (at least in that they send a live when operated) I was able to operate the window with a direct live from the battery so the car is weather proof again but have had to quit until next weekend as its now dark.
As I see it, I need to chase the wires in the door to see if they are damaged or broken, they appear to be fed direct from the switch but it is not clear if they have and connectors on route to the switch, if so this would enable me to test for continuity and locate the break.
Can anyone confirm if there are any connectors I could access to check for broken wires?
Or - have I missed something obvious, a relay for example?
Just had a thought that may or may not be relevant, the switches I purchased second hand had the shorter cable length and had to be extended (this was done by soldering a length of wire and heatshrink applied over each joint so should be fine unless the wire positions changed on the later MK1?
I have just managed 1/2 hour in the daylight and think I’ve found the cause, following the wires back from the switch I have found a 4 way square connector behing the fuse box, pussed into the cavity of the base of the A post (where it runs into the door)
The wires are mixed up in this connector and the red/green and green/white from the switch do not connect to anything, the 2 from the motor are in the top 2 cavities and the 2 from the switch the bottom 2!!
Hopefully a small screwdriver should remove them and I can correct it without any cutting or soldering.
All of the connectors look factory fit and no sign of tampering is evident so maybe Mazda got it wrong.I have no power to the passenger side terminals either so that may be the same problem - I’ll post back to confirm as it may help someone in the future if they have the same thing.
