Electrical Issue and multiple front Fog light switches

Having some difficulties and looking for some support. I’ve been working on my project car for a few months now at the weekends and evening and I’m happy to report she’s up and running rust repairs are well under way with the remainder of the work to be completed within a fortnight ready for MOT. However I have some issues with the Dreaded fog lights.

It seems to have two front fog light switches, no front fog lights installed by the way.

I was wondering from the plugs could someone give me a little insight into what I’m dealing with please? As I’m sure I should’nt have two of the same switches, so the previous user must have done something weird.

the left switch seems to do nothing at all and the right switch impressively manages to blow the 15A fuse every time.

Any help much appreciated.

That’s front fog and rear fog, the beam is down on one and straight on the other. Rear fog on the right has the tell tale light in it

Ah I see, many thanks. Could I just ask by the tell tail light what do you mean. I cant seem to see anything happening on the rear when I switch it, but I do have a random green wire running from the battery. is that possibly somthing to do with the rear fog light mod? Once agin thanks for helping

Edit: I think before I was sold the car the guy took off the front fog lights as I now see their worth a bit. Is there any easy/ cheap options to tide me over for the time being.

When rear fog is on the small light in switch should show.
For the time being you can forget about front fogs as they aren’t MOT requirement

excellent thanks. Could I aslo ask re the pic below, the green wire just runs to the boot and is loose just dangeling infront of the battery the rest of the wiring seems a little bodged to me. When the gree wire is attached to the Pos terminal the light on the fog switch goes on (wheater the switch is on or off the light is on), but when the switch is activated all the side lights come on, front back and numberplate. obiously not right any idea what may be going wrong?

Once again thanks for the assistance.

I’ve no idea on that, is this link a help with wire colours?

Have you a rear foglight hanging on back bumper or is it a Eunos with maybe the reversing light conversion, and the wires ripped out?

Its an Eunos mate but appart from that wire from the fog light switch (green) all the way into the boot no signs of any mods. Not entierely sure how its passed an MOT for 20 odd years as I cant find any sort of Rear fog light.

Been looking for a few hours now to no avail, most of the threads links no longer work to the pictures or the pictures have been moved/removed.

Could someone possibly help me out with a wring diagram/ details of the Pin outs on the Tell-tail 5 pin Fog light switch?? I’ve seen at least two examples provided and neither match the setup I can see on my Eunos. Many thanks

I think I’m on the cusp of giving my self some major electrical issues. Could I just ask, when you press the rear, tell tail fog light switch with nothing else on (no side light no main lights) does it switch your side lights and fog light on?

Mine seems to be switching on all the side lights.

Thanks in advance, just having this finial issue before the first MOT since I’ve owned it in over two years.

This is from a 2016 post in MX5Nutz, it may help but don’t shoot the messenger if it’s dodgy!
It says about the sidelights with pin 4.

“I was going to use the green No4 wire as the live for the fog light but it becomes live when the side lights are turned on. I’m thinking that the switch is for front fogs (although none are fitted on mine). Changing the feed to the No3 terminal would work though”
Just reporting back to say it worked

Using the image from the original post:

Earth to number 2

Live from the side lights to number 3

Fog light wire to number 4

Wire going from number 1 to number 4
That gets you a working fog light and the oem switch standard illumination working as a tell-tale.

Where:

1 is the live feed for the interior lights

2 is the earth for interior lights

3 is the live feed to the switch

4 is the feed to the fog light

Unfortunetly no match for me mate, I have the Six pin tell tail switch. Any chance someone has a pic of the back of theirs? or details of pin outs? The only link I’ve found isnt active anymore can I can’t see the image.

Surely the switch has 5 pins not 6.

Assuming your switch is the same as the one I have here, we’ll all the row of 3 terminals the bottom row and the row with 2 terminals the top row.

The terminal on the bottom row without one above it needs to be grounded.

The middle terminal on the top row needs to go to your fog lamp bulb.

The end terminal on the top row is for the switch night time illumination, live with side lights on. Usually a Red/Black wire on OE wiring.

The terminal below that is the negative side of the night time illumination, usually Red on OE wiring.

The middle terminal on the bottom row is the 12 volt feed to the fog lamp which “should” be taken off the side lamp circuit, maybe from the back of the lighting stalk.

Any help?

From your photo, it looks like the night time illumination wiring is OK, you just need to re-wire the other terminals correctly.

Spot on Robbie sound advice.
just so people know the rear fog lamp switch with tell tale actually belongs in a Mazda 323 F it was never fitted in eunos or mx5.
Common mod 20 plus years ago.
