[ELVIS] I'm all coked up, uhuhu[/ELVIS]

Look what daddy found when he performed open heart surgery today:

I’m not sure Redex would have cleared that carbon out!!!

So after a little bit of Drilly wire brushyness and dremmel polishy stoneyness I now have a sparkly clean engine.

I dremmeled the valve holes as they had really bad casting lumpy bits

Before:

After:

You’re going to have to imagine it as I’ve lost the photographs since my eldest son took my camera to take pics of a remote controlled car he wants to sell on eBay.

I’ll take some of the polished ports and valve holes tomorrow.

At least he comes in handy for something (Child labour rules!!!1111111111)

Apparently it’s OK as long as you don’t pay them [;)]

On a more serious note - another nice job [Y]

How many miles you done Halli?

180,088 km but now has valves from a 30,000 mile engine.

Purrs like a kitten.

Job done, am knackered, long weekend of engine rebuildyness, off to bed

Back to square one.

Blue smoke and 2 litres of oil burned in 60 miles today.

Not just blue smoke at startup, blue smoke all the way.

Coasted past two police cars and was cacking myself.

I guess the valve stem seals that I put back from the set I got from rockdoc in are shot.

Either new engine or all out again.

Car is in garage and I’m going to have to find alternative means of transport.

On a plus note, the car sounds and drives better than it has EVER driven, even when I first got it.

I
didn’t realise it could have the acceleration it has got now. (I
decided to rag it on the country roads on the way home to have some fun
before it went t*ts up)

Valve keepers were easy once I got my 11 year old son to help. Amazing fine motor skills!

I want to cry.

Please accept a virtual hug.  (Well, at least one of those embarrassed blokey almost-hugs that chickens out at the last moment and turns into an awkward pat on the back.)

On the bright side, just think how much quicker it’ll be to change the seals again with your newfound skills.  And obviously no need to decoke and grind the valves this time.

Man hug accepted and returned.

I’m in two minds as to change the seals or stick a used head on that I can get for £20, clean up and fix the old one and then either replace or sell.

If I replace with the one I reconditioned then I could recondition the other swap and sell that one on I suppose.

New seals in, still blowing smoke

Last ditch attempt to save it will be trying the new(er) head on and then it’ll be an engine swap.

Anyone got a 1.6 engine going spare?

Or, anyone got a spare runaround that I can get to work in? :(

Sorry to hear your about your problems, hope you manage to get it fixed soon.

Paul & Dorothy

G’day halli, I’ve been away for a few days and missed this sad tale. Have you done a compression test since putting the engine back together? Also did you do a wet test to make sure that the valve seats were bedded in properly?

SORTED

I hope!
