Emails in Japanese

Hi,

Can anyone help please. I have received a few emails from noreply@mx5oc.co.uk written in what appears to be Japanese - see below:-

????????? ???? ?????? ∀??????????? ????? ?? ????????????????∀ ∀???????????????????????????????????????????????????????∀?? ????? ??????∀????????????????????????????∀?? ??????? ????? ???????????∀????????????∀ ????????∀?????????? ?????????????∀ ??? ?????????? ???? ?? ?????? ????? ? ??? ?????? ??????? ??? ???? ? ???????? ? ?? ???? ? ???? ?????? ???? ?????????????? ?????????????? ???? ????∀??????????????????????????????????????????????????????∀ ????∀?????? ????∀ ??? ???? ??? ???? ??? ???? ???? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?????∀??????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????????????

This is just a small section of a recent message!

Any ideas why and how to stop it please?

Many Thanks,

It is possible that your Area AC has sent a mass email using the Club mailing interface and has copied the content of the mail from a Word or other Word Processing format document. This has in the past caused this type of translation to be received for some reason. The answer may be for the sender to type directly into the webform rather than copy/paste, or copy into notepad first which removes hidden formatting.

The English that google translate pulls out from the message doesn’t necessarily support the theory that an AC sent it though…

I get exactly the same when anyone responds to a post that I am watching. About 2 out of 3 are in Japanese / Chinese.

It is not a message sent by AC’s. Been going on for a good few months, possibly longer.

I only discovered RAF Marham was on the events calendar by looking at the forum. I did not get any email - in fact I have had no email notifications about events for Norfolk Fives for some time. I also didn’t get a response saying you had added myself and Linda to the Marham event, which I have done in previous years. I am not blaming you don’t think that - I may well have had a reply, I just couldn’t translate it!

Paul

Hi Paul,

Norfolk Region does not email out on events as we do not maintain an email distribution lists.  We post new events in the forum, advertise on Facebook and Twitter, and provide details at the monthly meeting, and within the news letter sent with STHT. But when you are following a topic, or section of the forum, I tend to get random emails in Japanese when someone new posts on the discussion.

I have no idea why, this is, all I can suggest as a rule of thumb is to check back every week or so to see if any new events are up, we do our best to give as much notice as possible. The messages in Japanese are just updates on posts you have commented on.

If I need to give you important information on RAF Marham, I will PM you to ensure you get the message.

Please feel free to PM me at any time. And just for clarity Paul Goode is the AC for the Norfolk Region, I just help out on events planning as I sit in front of a computer all day at work!

Ian - You replied to my original comment so I just hit reply.

Does Paul Goode have a different name in the forum as I can’t find it under Paul Goode? I trust its not in Japanese!!

Paul

Hi Paul,

I can’t reply to you PM as it says your inbox is full. So below for your reference.

Hi Paul,

Facebook is not linked to the MX5OC website, so its not from there. If you post in a forum topic, every time someone else posts in the same topic you get an email update if you are “following” the topic. Unfortunately for reasons unknown to me these are in Chinese rather than English sometimes.

Ian

Hi Paul.  From your original post it would seem that the message could originate with Mazda UK, have you contacted them for an answer?

I say that because a while ago I got what appeared to be model details from them in Japanese, I was told it was an error in an update for some info they’d sent me earlier in English.  Sorry if I’m wrong!

Hi all,

Just to clear this up. The RAF Marham post sends notifications when new posts are added if you are following the discussion. These automated emails from the forum are corrupt and are sending in Chinese. Possibly due to being copied from a word document. I have attempted to tweak the original post to stop these.

I am getting the same Chinese emails when there is a new post. So there is nothing to worry about.

They are not from the AC, not from facebook and not from Mazda. I will continue to test the post to stop this post doing it. Until i saw this today, i thought I was the only one with the issue as no others had reported it. Now I know it may be due to copying the original post from the word document I had written it in. I will try an fix the original post so we can get English automated notifications of new posts.

I hope that helps clear it up. It would be good if the web team can look into this issue and see if there could be a fix done to the code.

Ian

Ian, I guess it’s the extra large font style you used in the original Marham post maybe, or colour. The auto emailer simply hasn’t got anything  equivalent it can use when formatting itself so is chucking in the chinese characters. Maybe edit it back down to something smaller or more normal for the forum. Worth a try… I suspect there’s nothing much can be done technically otherwise without a lot of digging through code etc.

Hi Paul.

Thanks for your PM!  Tried to reply, but as Ian says, I got a message saying that your in box is full.  Hope the matter is sorted soon.

Best regards, Roger.

Hi Martin,

I have just stripped out the post and retyped it and used the formatting options in the forum. But still having the same issues. No large fonts, not changes of fonts, just a little bit of red, purple, bold and bullet points.

Perhaps I can’t fit this post, but knowing what causes the issue, perhaps I can prevent it happening on a new post.

Ian

Ian, Still getting loads of notifications in Japanese/Chinese - hope I’m not missing anything exciting! Paul

Same here, I have rewritten the post, but does not seem to have worked. Its just when someone else adds their name to the RAF Marham List. So you are not missing anything.

What you might find, assuming you just used the normal text editor, is you left behind a load of html code when doing the changes. Thats caught me out before, it all looks OK, but when you look at the code behind it there will still be lots of stuff in these When editing there’s a button with html on it, click that and have a look…  If you are doing a copy and paste from Word, that can also bring across unwanted formatting.  To do a nice clean post from Word when you paste it in make sure you use “paste as plain text” then only use the forum’s own edit buttons to highlight and colour…

Thanks Martin,

I have gone into HTML editor stripped out everything, then gone back to the normal text editor to do the layout and fonts again, fingers crossed that has worked!

i’ve been getting these emails since yesterday.   They are in Chinese but totally random. Test doesn’t make sense (luckily I’m chinese…)

Any idea whats’s the problem???
