Emojies....There Are More Out There Than the Club Provides?

Recently was temporarily unable to access Emoji facility when replying to new Forum poster but they came back on next interaction and logging out and in again

Use Laptop to respond to Forum

Meanwhile used smart mobile phone to liaise with Window Cleaner re his next appt [he has a business account so it’s cheaper for him to just use Emojies]

Noticed many, many, many more Emojies available via mobile phone with Window Cleaner than via Laptop and the MX-5 Forum

Wondering whether the Club was planning for us to access more Emojies than seem to be currently available

As greater choice should lead to less misunderstandings and potential conflict me finks

But, but, what do they mean?
Some of the simple ones are obvious, but most of the “subtle shades of meaning” rest?

There are thousands of them!
Wiki has a big article on the scale and continuing evolution of the Emoji. Try keeping up with the increase in numbers!

Surely one word, in English (clear meaning from many thousands) can carry the same message?
A text has 140 characters, at least 20 average words.
Some of the complicated animated “image” emojies might be a video each!

Life is simply too short, and I’ve no wish to learn yet another language I’ll rarely use!

Some emojis, the forum supports a pretty wide set, the specifics are buried in the settings somewhere, I’ll look later.

Mainly it comes down to the device you are using, the line above was posted from an Android device and renders fine on an iPad.

Of course the value of them is a personal choice, however I don’t believe there’s anything more to do from the technical back end perspective.

By my rough reckoning the are 179 lines of 10 emojies, including 5 unique to MX-5 owners club :nb_w: :ok: how many were you looking for

Thinking about it a red MK2 would be nice :sunglasses: :+1:

So, did you at least learn 1337 speak?

Give me a day or two….

Would it be cheeky to ask for it to be an NBFL

I’ll refresh my search for silhouette images and see what I can find, getting it down to a quite small number of pixels and keeping it sharp is all part of the fun…

I appreciate it might not be so easy distinguishing an NB from an NBFL difficult enough just looking at normal photographs sometimes

Leet?

No.

Why should I? I was always too busy, happily producing something useful.

Hiya RichardFX

I don’t disagree with anything you have written but find myself with a ‘foot in both camps’ in the absence of numerous ‘face to face in real life’ interactions on-line we miss out on Non Verbal Communication and therefore Emojies can assist ?

I guess I was thinking about a quote that I believe came from Laurie Lee about a parent asking his child about how their first day at school went and the child said it was okay but appeared unhappy

On investigation the child remarked that the teacher told her to “Sit there for the present”
and “I sat there all day and I still didn’t get a present !”

So, like you I don’t want to learn a new language…but am in support of any thing that can lead to better communication and therefore less conflict

There you go…not an Emojie in sight …Ha Ha Ha !!!

While Madge is no longer her original velocity red she is still Ford Racing Red

Well I’ll go to the foot of my stairs…if I had any

From your first pic of her I’ve always believed she was orange and she still looks orange to me

So need to check for ‘loss of colour’ at my next eye test [it’s either me or the laptop]

Thankfully I still know my Traffic Light Colours

Red : Stop
Green: Go

Orange: Drive Very, Very Fast

Silly question but I seem to only have access to the ‘heart’ emoji to react to a post. I see many ‘thumbs up’s which I am more comfortable using… I can access more when replying. Any clues on how to do this as a post reaction? Do I need greater forum seniority? Other? Many thanks

Press and hold the Heart button. You’ll then get a horizontal list of option emojis to choose from.

I just need to hover over the Heart button to get that horizontal list (using Firefox / Windows 11 Pro).

Not a silly question

Because I had the same thought ‘Do I need greater forum seniority’ ?

If I hover over my Avatar it says I joined in 2018 but all my paper documentation says 2019 and I do remember posting before joining

I also remember thinking 'Why can I only get a ‘heart’ emojie and asking the same question as you

Then suddenly I started to get more options when you hovered over the heart

Hope benfieldl has sorted your issue
