Recently was temporarily unable to access Emoji facility when replying to new Forum poster but they came back on next interaction and logging out and in again
Use Laptop to respond to Forum
Meanwhile used smart mobile phone to liaise with Window Cleaner re his next appt [he has a business account so it’s cheaper for him to just use Emojies]
Noticed many, many, many more Emojies available via mobile phone with Window Cleaner than via Laptop and the MX-5 Forum
Wondering whether the Club was planning for us to access more Emojies than seem to be currently available
As greater choice should lead to less misunderstandings and potential conflict me finks
But, but, what do they mean?
Some of the simple ones are obvious, but most of the “subtle shades of meaning” rest?
There are thousands of them!
Wiki has a big article on the scale and continuing evolution of the Emoji. Try keeping up with the increase in numbers!
Surely one word, in English (clear meaning from many thousands) can carry the same message?
A text has 140 characters, at least 20 average words.
Some of the complicated animated “image” emojies might be a video each!
Life is simply too short, and I’ve no wish to learn yet another language I’ll rarely use!
I’ll refresh my search for silhouette images and see what I can find, getting it down to a quite small number of pixels and keeping it sharp is all part of the fun…
I don’t disagree with anything you have written but find myself with a ‘foot in both camps’ in the absence of numerous ‘face to face in real life’ interactions on-line we miss out on Non Verbal Communication and therefore Emojies can assist ?
I guess I was thinking about a quote that I believe came from Laurie Lee about a parent asking his child about how their first day at school went and the child said it was okay but appeared unhappy
On investigation the child remarked that the teacher told her to “Sit there for the present”
and “I sat there all day and I still didn’t get a present !”
So, like you I don’t want to learn a new language…but am in support of any thing that can lead to better communication and therefore less conflict
