Engine Bay Dress Up Kit Stainless Nuts, Bolts

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the Mk2 is radically different to the Mk1 in terms of nut and bolt fittings under the bonnet.

I’ve been wanting to clean up some of the rust for some time.

Caution, I think that you will find that these nuts and bolts are not quite the same as the ones on your car. I seam to remember when I was after some I found that these, although they were Stainless Steel, they were normal metric hexagon nuts and bolts and washers unlike those on your car.   This is the type of combination nut and washer that is on your car, the bolts are similar as far as the washer part is concerned.

This is what you can end up with if you are prepared to spend the time polishing each nut and bolt.

Technical name for that is a “flange nut”. A bolt with the same feature is a “hex flange bolt”.

Replacing the standard fasteners with something the wrong shape made out of a more brittle material seems like a massive waste of time and money. Spend the time cleaning what you have, or even better just leave the bonnet down.

There’s a seller on Fleabay that does flanged bolts.

The key thing is the thread on the nuts and bolts - a lot of japanese cars use a different thread gauge to uk ones. I had a ford probe v6 for a short while some years back which was essentially an mx-6 underneath and had a mare with nuts and bolts on that thing! The uk ones won’t fit and if you try to force them on you’ll cross-thread stuff which is what the previous owner to me had done Sad

Thanks for the input! I can always rely on you guys to save me time and money.

Next time I get the urge to do something unessential I’ll make sure to run it by you.

There are only two or three threads on my Roadster that isn’t a standard metric, two of which are the seat anchor bolts and the nuts on the top of the shock absorbers.

“Roadster” being uk yeah? … is that the same for imports? - be a result if it is since I’ve already had about 5 or 6 bolts bust on my other half’s! SadBanging head on wall

No,  the Roadster is the import originally intended for the Japanese domestic market.

But to be honest makes no difference what so ever they are the same car just badge different with more toys on one than the other, same production line same fittings ,same nuts and bolts.Thumbs up

The shell of the Mk 2’s are not that far different so most of the nuts and bolts will carry over.Thumbs up
