Engine oil confusion

  1. My model of MX-5 is: mk1 eunos
  2. I’m based near: Birmingham
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: what the right engine oil would be to use, brought the car around 2 years ago. No paperwork or service history. Just got it all up and running now and have never serviced it. Unsure on what engine oil to use as I have read on the forum to stick with what has been used previously. But I don’t know what was put in? Does anyone have any recommendations what engine oil to use? Mileage is sitting at 162k.

I’d recommend a service kit from mx5 parts Service Kit, Genuine Mazda Filters & Oil, MX5 Mk1 – MX5 Parts these engines do make a tapping sound from the top of the engine. once the engine is fully warmed up, it should quieten down . If it is just as noisy, try Wynn's Super Charge Oil Treatment Compression Restoring Additive For Petrol & Diesel Engines 425ml : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive about half a can should do it.

Any good quality 10/40 semi synthetic oil will do.

As above use 10w 40 semi oil, probably a known brand. I used Castrol when I owned a Mk1.
