Engine Oil

Just wondering what engine  oil you would recommend for the mx5?.

For the Mk2 in normal UK conditions;   Semi Synthetic 10W40,

How about for a 64 Plate?

64 plate  Which model ?

A 64 plate is still under warranty and you also have the handbook.

Can you not ready the handbook.

It’s  a. 2.0l sport tech.

Haven’t looked in the hand book yet just thought I would ask the forum first.

I use Mazda’s Original Ultra 5W30 in my NC.

I’ve not been too fused about what goes in my NA, been using whatever I could lay my hands on for cheap/free. When I get around to rebuilding the engine I may be more fussy…

I went and got shell helix 10w40.  She’ll be in the garage next week to get the timing belt done, so will, Get a full service at same time.

Then off to the paintshop.

Go on the www.castrol.com site look for the oil locator on the right hand side put your reg No in and the site will advise what Castrol oil to use.
I use the EDGE 0W-30 in my 2010 miyako mk2.5 FL and I will use it in my 56 plate 2.0 option pack early next year

I use castrol 0w30 edge in my 2012 Honda accord diesel as its the only oil that is recommended for this car.  Always use castrol power in my motorbikes.

I’ll have a look on that site thank you.

I;ve been recommended Comma 5W30 synthetic at £20 for 5 litres for my new (s/hand) mk3 by the local motor factor.
sounds like a bargain to me.
any comments on that? good, bad, wrong etc?

As long as it matches that correct viscosity and ACEA rating then I do not see a problem. Comma make the oil for Halfords own brand anyway…

My next one not sure yet it will be another 5W-30, probably look at millers though in honesty.

Comma is the oil we use in our minibuses and cars at work. We get it from our local motor trade counter, never had any issues with it.

Fully Synthetic 5W30 is the recommended engine oil for the Mk3 ans Mk3.5.  I’ve used Comma oils in the past without problems, other than finding a supplier.  You can buy it on-line, but carriage costs make it expensive, however, If Halfords oil is made by Commer, then problem solved!

ps.  Halfords sell 3 grades of 5W30, the correct grade for the Mazda is the Ford specification.

For all Mk3/3.5 Mobil recommend Mobil Super 3000 X1 Formula FE 5W-30 and it comes in a useful 5L Laughing

It’s on offer at Halfords at the moment, http://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/mobil-super-3000-x1-formula-fe-5w-30-oil-5l

The maker could not be any clearer!

That’s the one I have just bought, and yes handy as 5ltrs you need over 4 ltrs for the oil change.
