- My model of MX-5 is: __2006 NC sport
- I’m based near: __Reading
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Engine rebuild/replacement
Just been told my big end looks like it is knocking. 127k 2.0 nc but in quite good condition so would like to save.
Are there any recommended routes to go (not able to do myself), pricing etc. 2.5 conversion would be particularly interesting.

Rebuilds are expensive these days, We send our engines off and your looking at 5K ish if not more for a full rebuild bottom end rebuild will be less by how much I’m not quite sure… I’ve seen a company that do the 2.5 conversion for 3K which I agree sounds interesting but when you read the details they only offer a 3 month warranty which is a little off putting, before going ahead I would ask history of the donar engine milage? age? service history ect… Also maybe get a second opinion on your engine before pulling it out?

It’s a high mileage and I suspect the car is probably only worth £2 or £3k? Simplest and cheapest solution would be to replace the big end bearing.
Is there much difference between this and a Ford Duratec in terms of the short engine? Would it be easier to find a good Duratec?
If anyone pays £5k for an engine build on one of these they’ve been right royally ripped off, that’s about 3x too much.
That’s a good example of why a lot of people head North for work doing
